Spartan/Bland?

The interface looks very bland to me, compared to a lot of other manufactures. It looks like those color pallets were designed in 2002. I would dare to say that even the new Verizon UI has more eye candy than this.

I understand function over form, but I don't understand how this user interface is significantly superior to any other offerings from Nokia or Samsung.

Clear and simple is a virtue when it comes UIs.

It actually has a glass-like effect to a lot of it, kind of like Mac OS X and Vista. To my eyes it has more "eye candy" than most UIs I've seen lately.

every aspect of the java linux os - the icons, the options menus the status bars, etc. - can all be skinned with themes. i have seen a number of really impressive one that put many other mobile oses to shame. unfortunately the china mobile theme was significantly less impressive. if you want to see some better themes for the java linux OS, eldar has some pictures using the motorola designed theme which i think is much slicker looking here:

unfortunately, motorola keeps a lock on theme creation unlike nokia or SE, so there doesn't appear to be an easy way to design your own
