Verizon Expands EV-DO To 14 Markets
Any EV-DO phones?
I have to get a verizon phone for my wife, who is a medical student. Verizon is the only carrier who gets coverage inside the school/hosipital.
Nice excuse to get a ev-do phone.
To be honest, unless you're using a phone more for data applications, you won't notice a difference between 1X phones & EVDO. EVDO has a higher data throughput, and you can have more active sessions per tower, but as far as voice communications go, it's about the same. You only need so much bandwidth to transmit a reasonable facsimile of the human voice, and 1X covers that nicely.
Now, if you were to get her a laptop & a Broadband Access aircard, then you'd see some results. I use a regular National Access card, and it's plenty fast. I can't imagine running 300-500 Kbps.
Interesting factoid for you. I was at a show about 8 months ago in NYC regarding wireless data.
An executive from verizon was there and he admitted that porn was actually the driver for EV-DO in South korea. Has anyone heard anything similar?
According to Dick Lynch, Verizon Wireless executive vice president and chief technical officer, the company will introduce more EV-DO PC card devices later this year as well as a possible PDA offering. However, EV-DO handsets will not be available until 2005 because of the company's rigorous testing process and the need for a larger footprint for consumers.

Oct 1st, yes this year(2004) the Audiovox line-up 9900 & 8910 will have the EVDO capable phones...
Enjoy...
Neither of these phones has been announced for launch, nor are they EVDO.
Once again...Enjoy...
I do know about the 1st EV-DO PDA device is going to be the Harrier by Audiovox. As far as the launch date I don't have a clue but it is in BETA testing where I work now and looks promising

Unfortunately, I wouldn't expect Wi-Fi, but it should have Bluetooth. 🙂
