Hands On with Dyle Mobile TV
Needs Fine Tuning (no pun intended)
1. Didnt Qualcomm try something like this with MediaFlo?
2. Dyle is a poor name, and it uses the font from SyFy TV, which is likely to have issues later if it gets bigger.
3. If this technology is marketed to consumers left and right with an abundance of TV networks, manufactures, and devices on the market - there will be no need to charge for it. One reason is its not currently legal to charge for OTA television in any form, HDTV included. Advertising pays for that.
4. Charge a slight markup on the devices, $5-$10, and use part of that to fund networks adding ATSC-M/H to their local transmitters.
Thats all for now.
I'm not sold on "Dyle", either, but they claim it's "fun, friendly and a 'wink' to retro" (as in the channel "dial" on a 1970s TV.)
I don't see why a font would be an issue. Many fonts look like that, and companies that use them don't own them. Companies that make them own them (font companies.) Besides, that is not the same font as the Syfy logo.
MediaFLO was broadcast, but it was a completely separate network, with shaky buy-in from the content companies, and it cost too much. This is actually driven by the content companies (very key) and it's free.
