AT&T Gives Up on T-Mobile Acquisition

Has Anyone Else Wondered this?

Why Verizon is suddenly snatching up 1700/2100 spectrum shortly after it seemed likely the T-Mobile/ATT deal was about to crumble? I know most say that it's so Verizon could build out their LTE network but..... Could it be they are gobbling it all up to "sweeten the pot" to encourage Vodafone to sell their share of the VZW joint venture, buyout T-Mobile USA and give them them the spectrum as an added bonus to get rid of them once and for all from their unfavorable 55/45 % joint venture position?? Most people seem to forget they were trying to eat up ATT wireless a few years back and would sell their stake in the process but now i'm wondering if this is a calculated move on their end. Vodafone seems to be inclined to have one brand all over...

The DOJ would be even more vehement in their anti-trust arguements on that.
Do people forget that VZN began as one of the Baby Bells?

How so? A Vodafone deal would automatically mean growth in the U.S sector as their obvious objective would be growth to keep up with the likes of Verizon and ATT. Much needed network enhancements and capital would also be brought to the table as Vodafone would more than likely move TMO USA to LTE and later LTE Advanced. It wouldn't be out of the question as regulators would likely want them to sell their stake in VZW which would be a good thing because such a sale would generate instant cash for Vodafone to do such things with little to no problem along with the AWS spectrum VZW seems to be stockpiling all of a sudden.. This scenario would retain the 4 national carriers footprint that the FCC and DoJ emphasized when they blocked ATT's acq...
