I opposed this merger from day one. I left AT&T for T-Mobile in November of 2011 for a better deal & better data rates. Only a few short months after my changeover the merger was announced & I was like "your kidding me". What I want to know now is...does anyone know the time frame on when I will be able to openly roam on AT&T's network? I know the cancellation fee is $3 billion cash money & $1 billion in spectrum...but how soon do T-Mobile customers get to see this benefit?

What makes you think that the merger break up agreement will allow T-Mobile subs to "openly roam on AT&T's network"? If you expect to gain the benefit of the entire AT&T network, carte blanche, you likely expect way too much.

AJ,
At present, TMO can roam onto AT&T in markets they don't serve thats the present agreement. I assume there will be some modifications.

From a short article that I read today, ATT and TMO may strengthen their roaming agreements in a future partnership, along with any other benefits that may have. This isn't certain but, likely.

Correct. But the perception that the previous post creates is that the merger break up roaming concession somehow will allow T-Mobile subs to roam without restriction on the AT&T network: "Hey, T-Mobile users, come on in! Pay T-Mobile prices, but now roam on the AT&T network anywhere, anytime, as much as you like!" That is not likely to happen.

AJ,
One never knows, TMO in the UK has some deal with 02, maybe they will try a similar arrangement in the US with AT&T.

"To reflect the break-up considerations due Deutsche Telekom, AT&T will recognize a pretax accounting charge of $4 billion in the 4th quarter of 2011. Additionally, AT&T will enter a mutually beneficial roaming agreement with Deutsche Telekom."

Mutually beneficial sounds pretty clear cut to me....

"Mutually beneficial" can have a very broad range of possibilities. AT&T and T-Mobile already have such agreements in place, need to see what is added.
