Now AT&T is grabbing at straws where there is nothing to grab.
Deutsche Telekom should have thought twice before entering into the U.S. carrier market.
To eventually have 1 GSM carrier in the U.S. market, subscribers are held at the mercy of the carrier and its plans with no freedom of choice to switch.

Of course this never came up if Sprint was able to buy TMO, and convert to CDMA, still would be one gsm carrier. But I guess thats different?

It never came up because Sprint did not make a move to buy out Tmobile if so you would here people in the news giving Sprint the same crap att is getting. I mean in reality Sprint is a better buyer for Tmobile than ATT because they aren't the GSM competition. Also correct me if I am wrong but isn't the whole industry going to be GSM in the end since everything is going LTE? I may be wrong about that but that was my understanding. Tmobile needs a buyer that is not in the cellular game yet or another small carrier needs to gobble them up (I know the latter would be harder but more logical)

Sprint was actually in negotiating talks to purchase Tmobile. I dont know if there was an official offer and purchase amount but, they were wanting to purchase. As for LTE, from my understanding, LTE is totally different from CDMA or GSM. Roaming agreements most like not be made among the top carriers but, I think the smaller will benefit by have a choice of national carriers to make agreements with, Unlike just having to choose CDMA or GSM. Again, this is all based on info I've looked up. Its still rather unclear. Maybe, if it was explained in more detail by the carriers themselves, that would shed more light on it.

The way I understand LTE is that everything will be done on the data side and the voice will be VOIP and LTE uses sim cards which is a GSM Technology so sounds like to me the future of Wireless is GSM in one way shape or form. I used to work for alltel and our district manager was talking about how LTE would work and that is the way it was explained to me. I do agree that the carriers need to explain things better so the consumers wouldn't feel in the dark on so many things.IMEI's are for GSM and that is what verizon is using right now even with the Iphone 4s not a typical esn for verizon and heck it's a GSM/CDMA World phone.

LTE is routed completely different on VZW and AT&T. It's allocated differently on the IP side so to say they will work identical is not true ( knowing full well that's not what you said). They will not be roaming on one another's system.
