Sprint and Clearwire Forge New WiMax, LTE Agreement
Sprint will launch LTE devices in 2013 that can operate on Clear's BRS/EBS 2500-2600 MHz spectrum. But, next year, Sprint will launch LTE devices that can operate on its own PCS 1900 MHz spectrum.
So, the LTE 1900 devices will come first. The dual band LTE 1900/2500-2600 (or tri band LTE 800/1900/2500-2600) devices will follow later.
Aren't they going to use their spectrum that was used for NEXTEL as well?
Yes, in my previous post, the "800" in "tri band LTE 800/1900/2500-2600" does refer to Nextel's re banded SMR 800 MHz spectrum that is currently used for iDEN 800.
As iDEN winds down over the next two years, Sprint may first deploy a few CDMA1x 800 carrier channels. Most Sprint devices (not including the iPhone 4/4S) released over the past year quietly include CDMA1x 800 (i.e. CDMA band class 10) capability. Then, once iDEN is gone for good, Sprint can roll out LTE 800 in that spectrum.
