Verizon Says Carrier IQ Software Not on Its Phones

So if they don't use CarrierIQ, this is not to say they don't use another piece of software under a different name that does the same thing. There's too much at stake here. A cat and mouse game for privacy!

I fear you're right; seems too tempting for Big Red to pass-up. They do have that disclaimer on their web site about privacy and tracking where you can opt out; what does that cover? Anybody know?

The privacy agreement is about consumer proprietary information, like tue phone's location by tower and other information that may be used to deliver more personalized adverts (such as regional ads). This information is collected at the network level and does not require Carrier IQ.

As for Verizon and consumer privacy, they have always been big about it. Internal policies have always favored the customer and the customer's privacy. Since they spend so much on testing phones for operation and reliability, maybe they feel there is no need to invest in injecting such a software on their phones.
