I can't see myself using a Windows 7 device as I am too attached to Android, however I disagree that it's hideous. The live tiles and the sAMOLED screens on the new devices are beautiful. The colors are also entirely customizable. I think WP7 does exactly what it intends to do- simplify the experience of using a smartphone, and it does it well.
The 7.5 Mango update adds a lot of cool features, and the platform can't be touched in terms of the functionality it has BUILT in. (search options, social networking integration, Xbox Live, etc.)
The one reason I'll likely never use a WP7 as my personal device is the lack of app support. Maybe if that changes they could be a real contender for serious users.
