ok...is it just me or is Moto movin REALLY fast? It's got how many phones that have been announced and not released, or horribly delayed and yet it's continually announcing updates and new phones. For whatever reason the marketing dept. at Motorola has been hyping REALLY early and not releasing in a time frame that allows for American consumer's impatience.

Remember the a840, v710, a630, v180, Mpx220....oh wait...they haven't been released yet. How CAN we remember them if we haven't gotten our hands on them?

The A840 and V710 were announced in March. The A630 was announced just a few weeks ago, and the MPx220 was only officially announced today.

That these phones have not been released yet is no surprise. 3-6 months lead time between announcement and release is typical for this industry. Look at Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Siemens - same exact thing.

With that said, Motorola has had its fair share of major delays and screw-ups in the past, such as the V810, V600, E310, and T725... but they seem to have learned from their mistakes, (from the V600 especially,) and these days they are only announcing phones when they are well within 6 months of release.

That's sensible, and in line with what their competitors are doing.

So, then, the cretins in the V710 forum are creating a false sense of panic? Why does it seem to me that the V710 has been worse than usual with the delays & such?

Because of the hype. Motorola jumped the gun on promoting the V710. They started major ad campaigns and contests right when the original, earliest planned launch timeframe was (June).

Then the V710 was delayed in Verizon testing for about 6-7 weeks. That's not at all unusual for Verizon. "Original, earliest" launch dates are almost never met. I'm not trying to speak ill of Verizon, I'm just saying it's their normal process that launch dates are flexible so they don't have to compromise on testing and bug-fixing (in theory).

In fact, 6-7 weeks is a pretty short delay for Verizon. But Motorola had already started the hype machine, so they kind of shot themselves in the foot with that.

maybe it's that I've been keepin up on hellomoto.com as well that I've seen some things out early and seemingly overhyped. I agree the a630 and others were announced in reasonable timeframes before their scheduled release, butthe hype on the v710 is insane. I don't understand why a company would announce a promotion almost 6 months before a release. A lot of people don't bother to read the attached info and that lulls them into a false sense that this'll be out really soon.
