Honestly I believe that this is the way to go, Lightsquare may never be up and running + there frequensy is suspect and Clearwire has so much spectrum that Sprint should be ok from this deal. The only question mark is the NON Exclusive deal, hopefully they do stay together. Realize it or not Sprint really needs Clearwire and for what I can see and read LTE is the way to go...

LTE was always the way to go. Sprint was too stupid as usual to realize it. Their WiMAX service is atrocious. But I don't blame that on the technology itself. I think it's because it operates at such a high frequency (2500 MHz?) that the signal doesn't penetrate well inside building structures.

My friends with Evo...

My friends with Evo's constantly complain how 4G service sucks on the Sprint network. Even Sprint's 3G service sucks too lately for some reason. Maybe all those iPhones?? It's true what they say, you get what you pay for. Big Red costs more but service is top notch and I have grandfathered unlimited data anyway so I'm good ;)

Anyway I think Sprint is trying to push Clear under the bus so they can go bankru

Sprint was not too stupid to realize LTE was the way to go. Sprint had spectrum that had to be used right away. Wimax was ready to go, LTE was not. What would you have done? Throw away the spectrum, use a technology that was iffy at best, or use a proven technology that was slower?

Be careful with your assertions. Otherwise, you may reveal that the stupidity is not Sprint's but your own.

Bear in mind that Sprint and Clear started deploying WiMAX two years before VZW started deploying LTE. At that time, WiMAX was the available technology; LTE was not. So, in order to satisfy conditions of the Sprint-Nextel merger consent agreement, Sprint had to run with WiMAX. Additionally, WiMAX was a natural fit for unpaired BRS/EBS 2500-2600 MHz spectrum.

These complicating factors are well established. If you want to be knowledgeable about the situation, you need to know all of the factors.

That is correct AJ, Verizon has its own way of doing things and does not get slammed like other companies for doing so...I do have to say there is a reason Verizon is very quiet about the merger of TMobile & AT&T ( Alltell Merger ) and might be probably waiting for it to go through, then who can say No, or try to refute them if they want to buy out Sprint ( I know a long shot ) but it may look like only the big 2 will survive... Other companies may line up to try and compete aka Metro PCS off of Merger diversifieng assets, but it does not look promising for the so called little guys....

Thanks for the warning but I'm not worried. I stand by my original opinion when I fully stated that Sprint was stupid. They have been known for making stupid decisions for years.

You completely glazed over WiWavelength's full explanation of facts in order to justify your lack of appropriate knowledge in regards to the FCC provisions made for Sprint's choice for WiMAX.

So in reality, you feel that learning the technicalities of the wireless industry, is in no means worth taking seriously nor worth learning. Your whole directive here, is to just saturate forums like this with propogated sales tactics for your carrier.

John,

You will never get through to someone who chooses to ignore reality in favor of a fantasy world in which they have made up. It been public knowlegde for a long time that Sprint had a certain time frame in which to use the spectrum aquired through the Nextel merger and therefore they had to go with the tech that was available within that time limit. I would say that choosing WIMAX and retaining the rights to the spectrum was a much smarter move then to simply forfeit the spectrum entirely. But hey, You, Wifi, and myself are just a bunch of socialists that reside in the world of logic. 😁

So "Sprint sucks" because you and all your friends say so? LOL! Are you serious dude? Verizon is worth $20 per month because it's better? Yeah, one whole point higher than Sprint in Consumer Reports latest testing.
