The truth of the matter

As a T-mobile employee, as soon as the merger was brought up, we got emails and letters in the mail talking about serverance pay. We are going to experience heavy losses. Jobs WILL be created through the merger, but the NET LOSS of jobs will be far greater.

And not a single one of you will see that severance pay. They'll just put you in situations where you can't succeed, like putting a T-Mobile store's staff in an AT&T store that's already fully-staffed almost 50 miles away(because you can't get severance if you refuse an offer less than 50 miles away), and fire whoever doesn't hit their quotas.

---" because you can't get severance if you refuse an offer less than 50 miles away"---

While this is an unfortunate truth, it also depends on what an individual does for a living and/or the employer's policies and regards to value of employee's history status. But to be offered another position in an area located at just below minimum requirement, is most definitely a loss of disposable income when figuring in gas and altering the auto insurance to compensate for average driving and adding an extra of idle unpaid drive time up to 2hrs.

However, we must agree that ATT will take care of their own first and dispose of the extra weight.

It doesn't depend. That's the policy regarding severance if this buyout goes through. Employees have to be terminated without cause, or offered a position more than 50 miles from their current location, to get severance.

AT&T doesn't really have a choice in firing people, either. Their employees are union. T-Mo isn't. Much easier to get rid of non-union people. They've also made it pretty clear they only want T-Mobile to eliminate a competitor, not to get better employees or service.

I agree with you for the most part, but I think they will get rid of the dead weight employees during this transition. Making it look as if they were being fair. When the truth is, they were planning on getting rid of those employees anyways.
