Someone stop me when I'm wrong but it seems as though Verizon is buying up Qwest like Cingular did with ATTWS. With both Quest and AWS using the Sprint Network. So if my crystal ball is correct (which it seldom is) The Market place is boiling down to Cingular vs. Verizon (T-mobile and Nextel are some where in the backgraound. And Sprint is pimping their service to all the companies that are selling off their current networks. There is something "Mergers and Buyouts" that makes me feel uneasy. Then again maybe I'm just Paranoid. πŸ™„

consolidation is clearly on its way.

I think its going to end being verizon vs. cingular vs. nextel/sprint.

Sprint and nextel MUST develop some sort of partnership to use the MMDS spectrum which they share. Both are investigating flarion for that band. Both have BIG FAT chunks of spectrum up there (30 to 100 mhz per market).

If that partnership goes well then my guess is we will see the two merge.

Mergers make me feel uneasy as well. They inevitably means less competition. Oligopies always stink and are never truly competitive. Just look at the history of the US auto industry for a cue on the impact of oligopolies.

The consolidation is a necessity for now. Just look at the debt on most of these guys and the forecasts for sub ...

β€œThe sale completes our shift from a network-centric wireless provider to a more customer-focused operation that is designed to deliver exceptional value and service to customers,”

So they are going to wholesale from Sprint??? how is that servicing the customers? I also get a kick out of the disclaimer at the end that to sum it up... "This statement maybe full of crap."

I remember reading a rather interesting article in a magazine last year before LNP went into effect that was written by a business annalist. To sum it up he was saying that there are two many major Cell providers at this time and to offer proper competition to the customer base it would be better to have 3-4 large companies then 6-7 large companies. He also goes to say...

Man i tell ya your right. I worked for ATTWS from 3-2000 till 10-2002 and as early as june / july of 2002 the guys in the know were talking about a ATTWS Cingular "merger" as they call it i call it a buy out. Because when one company is on the way up like Cingular whose stock sits around 30-34 per share and another company is spiraling downward like ATTWS who's stock at its lowest last year was around 4 bucks a share its a buyout plain and simple, but i digress. I think we will be seeing a few other "mergers" in the next couple of years. When i worked for Verizon after ATTWS somebody was always talking about them buying sprint which never happened but i think would be a great thing. Now i work for a smaller carrier RCC commonly known as Cell...

Well, now that Verizon's bought the spectrum it needs to shore up its coverage in the Northwest...maybe it'll approach the quality of its Northeast coverage? Here's h...

VZW buying Qwest's licenses is good for Verizon, bad for U.S. Cellular. The Longview, WA market has been a cash cow for USCC because it sits between Portland, OR and the Puget Sound area. USCC could almost have no customers in that market and still be profitable because of Portland and Seattle VZW customers roaming on I-5. What this transaction does is to solidify VZW's presence on the I-5 corridor.
I think that there is some confusion here. Verizon did not get the entire Qwest network. Pieces of it went to Sprint. VZW picked up licenses in areas that they had no license before. Qwest's network is nothing to write home about, so VZW and Sprint will have a lot of buildout to do.
Now if VZW can only get licenses in Yakima, WA, Richland, WA...

Hey Jeff, do you live in Oregon? I do, and you are dead on about the Bend market. That area is growing so fast that it would be a dream. However, U.S. Cellular owns the CDMA liscenses there, and I doubt if they are in a hurry to give them up.

Well get used to the trepidation, 'cause Verizon's been eyeing Alltel under the radar for a while now.

You becoming a Verizon Wireless employee would be one of the best things that could happen to you. The benefits and pay are top in the industry. And talk about stability? Who wouldn't want that??

The mega-merger time may slow down but Alltel coming into VZW has been anticipated. And to make it easier Alltel split their wireless division from their wireline division. It would be a much better fit for both than the ATTWS/Cingular deal was. Verizon and Alltel compete in so few markets it is a perfect match.

I tell ya what man, i worked for VZW as a sales person and yeah the pay is great and the benefits i have gotten everywhere. The thing that VZW is not about is taking care of their employees outside of those two things. I worked for them from 10-2002 till 11-2003 and i have never felt like more of a tool. Even when i worked for ATTWS and Sprint i didnt feel that bad. VZW is almost impossible to compete in because they bend the rules non-stop. That is why i like working for the smaller carrier now that i work for RCC better known as Cell one or Unicel in the northeast. I get the same pay i average about 44,000 a year as a entry level salesperson and im on the fast track to move up to managment. So to answer your question ?I wouldnt want that i...
