I keep having to turn off my phone's WiFi because it will latch onto a weak, unusable connection rather than switch to 3G.

The WiFi Forum announced earlier this year an amazing set of agreements that will allow smartphones to roam on multiple WiFi networks around the world and seamlessly hand-off from 3G to WiFi to 4G, etc. It will be on cell phones starting in early 2012.

Eric,

I am totally enlightened by today's news. I have a couple questions though that I would liked answered if possible.

During the event, I would like to know if these questions were asked and answered.

1) Is the automatic handoff from network to WiFi or visa versa going to be seemless? As it stands, transmissions are interrupted while transitioning back and forth.

2) The same question applies in the handoffs from 3G to 4G or visa versa. This would truly be a milestone and an advancement I would welcome and like to see.

Absolutely!
That goes without any glitches or interruptions it would be fantastic.
Hopefully Sprint works on their coverage as well.
If they could pull that off as well, the proverbial "pulling a rabbit out of your hat" would be moot.

How can you have questions if you are "totally enlightened".
