Law was micro usb, not 30 pin adaptor, this is also true for other areas of the world but the EU, Apple even signed on board. Their product should be banned from the EU and other areas who are going to the micro usb standard as agreed upon. No adaptor, not figamagig, just the same micro usb port as everyone else.

What would work fine is make the iPhone with microUSB and then send an adapter so the old cords work with it.
...
That would be bad for Apple. There are already a plethora of accessories that use the 30 pin connector. Not micro USB. All of those accessories would become useless... and it would give competitors a chance at cross compatibility with said accessories. Plus all of those existing 30 pin using accessories go to landfills.

Apple did it themselves once before. Around the time the iPod Touch came out and the original was renamed the Classic, they also made a change to the port that made existing accessories and cables obsolete. There had been quite a few portable DVD players that had iPod docks that wouldn't work with the newer iPods.
So really, that argument doesn't really fly since Apple has done it voluntarily.

Actually the law allows for adapters to be used...
...
I just think the adapter should be bundled with the product, it shouldn't be something that consumers have to buy extra.
T Bone's law says that for any electronic gizmo all the stuff you need for it to work properly should be included with the product, you should NEVER have to buy something extra to make the thing you already bought work.

"No PC Needed" with the new phones.
Car adapter? Radio adapter? Those aren't "Needed". Those aren't "required" to operate the phone. Chargers have always been included (wall wart with usb/30'pin cable).
What more do you "Need"? I'm not sure "need" means what you think it means.
I'd argue that previously, you could argue that a PC was needed to activate the iPhone, but the USB cable came with the phone (Even if it wasn't "standard" USB).
You could also argue that Apple was evil for doing their own proprietary connector, but before Micro-USB was forced, everyone did their own thing.
I hate Apple as much as the next person... but selling accessories for cars and radios with a proprietary adapter isn't' exactly leaving you without...

You shouldn't have to use Apple's proprietary standard, you should be able to use ANY Micro-USB charger you might have lying around....which you can't do without an adapter...

why dont they just put both on? It certainly wouldnt be too difficult, plus they could put whatever limites they want on either one, considering the micro only needs to charge it...
...
Put both on? Nah, they'd never do that. That's too easy of a solution, doesn't cause enough arguments or consumer outrages. Too easy.
