Apple had the opportunity to surpass its competitors in innovation and design for a strong 4th quarter and 2012, but simply played catch up. The upgrades were important to bring it up to higher-end smartphone standards, but lacks Apple new and exciting "must have" approach.

There will not be people camping out for this device and this further gives Android the time needed to dominate the market.

Also, for those that watched the entire presentation - the part when they brought up 4G and "they aren't going to get into the conversation about what is and isn't 4G" is outright pathetic.

This is a 3G phone and will be until its LTE on Verizon. 4GLTE is the only true, best is world class, 4G network.

What good it 4G if you have a phone that will only last 3-4 hours using it?

Justfinethanku,

There's always going to be an opposing opinion in the Apple vs the others.

Since me and my peers are of a generation born between '60 and '65, many of these people(including myself), left Apple many years ago because of descention over Apple's stubborness and shortsighted view of consumer's interests and wants. When Apple introduced the very first iPhone, many of my colleagues opted to try Apple again. The first two variants had drawn much acclaim from my peers and millions of other consumers. I almost switched to try it myself. I waited. The 3Gs was somewhat of a disappointment and then rebounded their's and my interest with the iP4. I almost tried it again.

I have to tell you that this offering, is a huge disappo...

Stop making excuses for them. Cause some of my friends are amount the deepest Apple fans out there (they own everything Apple) and even they're pissed! So stop acting like you're not just to validate yourself among Android users.

Secondly, if Apple were as innovative as they say they are, they would have found a way to overcome to the battery life issues with LTE. It's been out a year already and from what I hear the smaller chips available so they wouldn't have had to compromise the size of the phone either. No excuses.

This will be great for Android cause the phones will get thinner and battery life wi...

I'm not.

I agree, but I'll add this: They would have found a way to overcome the battery life issues with LTE and would have waited until they were finished solving the problem before releasing it onto the market

and from what I hear the smaller chips available

Oh yeah? Interesting. I wonder if Apple knows this, you had better call them asap!

Apple needed to make a splash at this event and they failed.

I agree, they did fail to make a splash. I'm still impresse...

You are one of the people who faults RIM for not offering the most advanced technology on the marker and being a generation behind in hardware, for you to defend Apple for the exact same thing is just special pleading.

That's true, I do put a lot of emphasis on blackberry not keeping up. but for a lot more reasons then just lack of hardware. the phones are all but unusable for most people. and it's not because they are falling behind on hardware, it is because the entire user experience is completely lacking.

Honestly your sounding juvenile. You basically made a childish remark on every one his points...Your not exzactly helping to change the I-Phone stereotype nor presenting yourself as a smart educated person.

I agree a couple of the remarks went a little bit too far. I got caught up in the moment. Not really sure why I get upset on forums .

The obsession with thinness...I understand why people want the 'thinnest phone', because thinner phones are easier to stick into your pocket and tote around.

But all of the battery problems with recent smartphones could be fixed simply be increasing the size of the battery, not by much, an 8th of an inch or less, but they are unwilling to do that because it is all about thinness, allegedly...
