What right does the government have to make any decision regarding ANY merger of ANY private business?

Next they will be telling you that you cannot marry whomever you wish... oh wait.

Well, as long as we are posing questions, try this one: What right does a private business have to use and/or sell access to public property (e.g. easements, spectrum)?

Answer my question, and, concomitantly, you get an answer to your question, at least as it pertains to the AT&T-T-Mobile merger.

No, they don't, becuase they arent buying it, they are renting it. If they were buying it, that would mean that the money would stop rolling in at some point. We can't have that ! We need greed!

i agree with you about renting it....but they call them spectrum "auctions" and the winning bidders buys the spectrum. nobody auctions off rentals.

Are you arguing actual logistics or just semantics?

Wireless carriers cannot "buy" spectrum anymore than you or I can "buy" a seat on an airline flight. Neither do wireless carriers "rent" their spectrum. Rather, they "license" their spectrum access from the public. And, yes, licenses are auctioned. A winning bidder "wins" or "buys" only the privileges and obligations that constitute the license. For example, a license is granted for a specified period of time. The public may choose not to renew a license at the end of the license peri...
