Can someone please tell me how this will create jobs when most of the service territory between the companies overlaps. There will be retail closures, billing and accounting excess, network operation and call center redundancies, not to mention management layoffs. I dont understand. I wonder how much money AT&T and T-Mobile are paying lobbyist/Congressmen to write bull#$@! letters to the president.

Well if obama is as smart as perceived, then he will block this merger. The statements made by those reps seem like they are reading a script from AT&T. Someone's getting paid off here.

I somewhat agree. I don’t think he will do anything, but rather let this issue be handled in the court system. I really don’t believe or hope this merger will go through. I would like T-mo to stay independent.

The problem with that, is DT was looking to sell T-Mo before AT&T stepped up to buy them. Even if the merger doesn't go through, I don't see them being around much longer. Then everybody loses...

T-Mobile just isn't strong enough to compete against the other 3.

As I have been watching people talking about the merger over the last several months, I continuously see people say "If the merger does not go through, T-Mobile will just collapse anyway. DT does not want them anymore. So the merger will save jobs, because without the merger, all jobs would be lost".

However, that is a lot of assumption, and I argue that people are not looking at all of the possible things that can happen. Let me explain:

What is the biggest problem people, including gov, have with the merger: Well, it would make ATT too big and there would be one less major carrier (creating a duopoly..or at least not enough competition).

So, what if a company not in the wireless game, or one not in the United States, decides to...

I'd be interested to see if it swung the other way, and T-Mobile sold out to Sprint or Verzon.

Yeah...

However it would be hard for Sprint to merge with T Mo now, after being so outspoken against the ATT/Tmo merger...but things would be interesting.

Or another scenario, T-Mobile sells out piecemeal to the smaller prepaid carriers, like Cricket, MetroPCS, Virgin Mobile, etc.

That would foster competitiveness, giving them a bigger slice and maybe some of their own towers where they're lacking.

Do you realize what the real scenario needs to be? Any carrier that uses GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA+/LTE can combine with T-Mobile. Verizon-not even close
Sprint-Junk again never going to happen.
T-mobile came to ATT to buy them. No one else wanted them. Sprint is whinning, and hoping for a good chunk without paying any extra money.
Att and T-Mobile are on the same spectrum. Stop being tards.

Actually, you're wrong. It was reported on this site that Sprint made a bid to buy T-Mobile about a week before At&t put a bid in. At&t swooped with a bigger bid and thus landing us where we are now.

Sprint buying T-Mobile would have worked because Sprint is now abandoning WiMax and is going to dev...

The problem is German government.
DT is in deep trouble in Germany due to the whole economy situation in EU.
Some countries are in danger of bankruptcy and rich countries have to support them. Unfortunately, Germany is one of them.
Frankly, I'd see the whole DT system disintegrate itself.

I agree with you. Although I would like T-mo to stay around, I would hope AT&T won't be apart of T-mo's future. (Wishful thinking on my part.) If AT&T becomes successful with merging with T-mo, it would not be a total loss for the Job market. However, Jobs will be lost.

Anyone surprised? Let's all take votes to see which members of congress are wanting the merger to go thru and how much they were paid by ATT to write that letter.

I find it funny that At&t has stated during all this mess that they don't have the capital to deploy an LTE network as strong as the one proposed by this merger. But they sure do have capital to pay off Bobble headed Congressmen to read off a script and write letters to Obama... 🙄

the name of the game is called Money. I believe this buy out will go through. AT&T has the money for it. And if anything happens it will be the same thing that happen when they where Bell South. They will split up TMO and sell them out to the highest bid. Yea it sucks but this is how the world works. Money fuels everything. If you dont like it then you dont have to Pay for AT&T service. there are a ton of other carriers you can choice from. You Pay for the name for att thats the simple truth.

I think the jobs created will be in the network deployment side. TMobile lacks the capital to conduct a massive 4G rollout like Verizon and AT&T, so if the merger goes through, we'll see more towers either go up or get modified for 4G which may create some jobs. And better, faster data speeds might lead to a more connected and productive workforce all around. BUT we will see redundancies in just about every level from device manufacturing to call centers, to management staff, to retail storefronts, redundancies that will need to be reduced by laying off people. AT BEST, it's a wash in terms of job creation.
