4 Things for you,
1. If you "paid your bill" like you claim, which you most likely didn't, you could have taken your bank statement to an AT&T store showing your final payment. If they match up that would have been corrected. AT&T like most carriers would most likely contact you telling you that you didn't pay your bill. They will do this via email, text message if you keep your number, and postal. If you haven't updated your information with AT&T they are not wizards they will not know that information.
2. Consumer Reports is a joke, they get people like you that report why they hate a company when clearly you deserved what you got. Pay your bills and you will be fine.
3. Your bringing up an issue that looks to be about 10+ ago.. really?
4. The iPhone for Verizon was considered a flop. Glad to hear that your friends are happy, however nearly half the people that jumped ship for the Verizon iPhone are now back with AT&T because the service was the same and actually multitask on a AT&T iPhone (talk and surf the web). Crazy as that sounds, people use that all the time..
