Actually, people do care about this. The idea of having a single GSM/WCDMA carrier on a national basis is concerning. I'm hoping that the DOJ and Sprint suits are successful in stopping what would be the Bell Telephone of the wireless world.

Then don't sue them to not merge. Sue T-Mobile to not sell out. Because where AT&T buys them or not, T-Mobile is looking to get out of the business. So whether Sprint bought them out or Verizon, we'd still be looking at only one major GSM/WCDMA carrier in the US.

As I've said before, T-Mobile is viable as a standalone. I'd rather see some venture capital take them over.

As a customer of Tmobile, I am terrified of what my bill will look like. Compared to At&t's current pricing, i would be looking to pay at least $40-$50 more per month for less data and fewer minutes. At&T says that it won't raise prices but once they are sole owner, they can do whatever they want. I pray that somehow, something stops this!

God people. Give it up already. AT&T has to agree to certain terms before they're able to buy T-mobile out. It's so ridiculous of how all you people cry about it. The current Tmobile plans your on is what you will be grandfathered into. Sprint is the biggest cry babies of all. GET OVER IT! & shut up already. 🤣

You will not get "grandfathered" if it's anything like the Cingular merger. People were forced off from plans the second they needed a new phone or their contract came up.

Exactly. That is exactly what will happen. Or a feature change.

T-mobile is going under, they are losing to much money. Unless everyone wants the government to fund them. O wait AT&T has the money to buy them but sprint the government or anyone crying about there bill going up can afford to buy them. So let's please here a more logical answer for the problems of T-mobile.

Your ignorance is infuriating! T-Mobile USA is profitable! They have been losing subscribers but not losing money. They readily post quarterly results on their website.

acdc1a,
Were they? There are people still on the old AT&T Blue plans that were grandfathered in. I'm on an old Cingular plan which is cheaper and is not offered anymore. You don't like the merger, I can understand, but don't make stories up.

I was living and working in Utah when Cingular absorbed AT&T Wireless, and there were about 800 subscribers from a specific part of southern Utah that got shut off all on the same day because they had older TDMA phones. That was a great month for us at Verizon, as most of them drove up to our area (two hours or more), to sign up for new service.

That's what grandfathering means - they're not going to force you off of anything unless you move to make a change (and even that might not change your plan, either).

Imagine someone took a picture of your account - phone, plan, everything - and said here's your grandfathering. Change anything that's on this picture, and you have to choose to change to a new plan or go somewhere else for service.

It's that easy.

You are correct, they do have to agree to certain terms. Didn't they agree to terms that they wouldn't raise prices when they purchased Cingular? Then they buy Cingular, tell all the customers, "we will grandfather you into your plan"......until you need to upgrade your equipment or your contract expires, to which you would have to change your plan, which, low and behold, were in most cases substantially higher. 🙂

Kenzin,
They didn't for me. I still have my Cingular plan from before the merger, they never moved me off, even with new phones and other stuff. And please no stories about a friends uncle's son's, father in law nephew that was forced to change plans.

They are just jealous. I assume if the customers don't make any changes to their plan after the merge they will keep the same plan. This is not the first merger

You're right! It's not the first merger. Previously AT&T Wireless customers were forced onto Cingular plans.

Stop saying people were forced into plan changes, because they were not!!! We've had the same plan, never been forced to change! People act like the world is coming to an end. GET OVER IT! Sprint is ridiculous for constantly crying about it. They know they are bottom of the barrell. Think about it, the unhappy customers that switched from at&t to tmobile, who don't want to be at&t customers again, will either go to verizon or spint. God, there's so many other things in the world to focus time on rather than crying over AT&T buying out Tmobile. I hope they do, so I can laugh at all these people that wonnnnntt shut up! 🤣

That happens ALL the time. it has nothing to do with companies merging together. I have customers who've been with who I work for, for 10+ years, but they are having to change their plans still. That's just what happens. I'm just saying, go focus all this energy on something useful & actually meaningful. Who cares if At&T buys out tmobile, it's not like the world is coming to an end. All you people are so stuck on rate plan changes & this & that. For those people that don't wanna pay higher bills, they will be able to switch to SPRINT or VERIZON! 😉

Exactly! Did everyone forget when Sprint suddenly decided that customers who wanted a smart phone had to pay a "premium data" charge that was originally a "4G data charge"? All the customers coming in and upgrading from one smart phone to another suddenly had their bill go up by $10 per smart phone device! No merger there, also no one was "forced" to upgrade. If you don't wasn't to agree to the terms and the 2 year contract, then you don't get the discount on the device, it is that simple. Nothing is stopping you from buying a device outright and keeping your plan forever. People who don't understand this AT&T and T-Mobile merger are most likely the same people who don't understand why 2 year contracts are put in place. Welcome to the world ...

Funny, if Sprint took over TMO, and converted to CDMA, which was a possibility, don't see anyone complaining there would be a single gsm carrier.

Versed,

Sprint would not spend the money to convert any GSM or CDMA technology. The push for most carriers, is for LTE as as a standard. Just as for Sprint and Tmobile. This would make Tmo and Sprint the same technology and compatible.

I don't understand why people aren't seeing this.

Sure in the future, Sprint/Clear is only knowing thinking or talking about converting to LTE, they still have their eggs in the WiMAX basket. And when will this happen? A few years down the road?

There are a couple of things that I still can't get my head around.

The first is that Sprint's biggest competitor in the budget rate plan with a contract cell phone business is ............................................. (wait for it)..................................T-Mobile . You would think that having one of their biggest competitors out of the way would thrill Sprint to no end. After all, you would thing that the T-Mobile customers who do not want to pay the ATT rate plan prices will flock to them as a lower price option.

Secondly, the company that was rumored to be buying T-Mobile before ATT was announced as the highest bidder was none other than Sprint. I wonder if Sprint would be so litigation happy if ATT decided that if Spri...
