Why would Apple single out HTC if this were true? Why not all the OEMs and Google?

They've already gone after Motorola and Samsung. Each case is a little unique, since each OEM has made iOS-style tweaks. (Samsung's is more about their devices being shameless rip-offs of the iPhone/iPad)

I believe it is due to the way Android licensing works. In other words, if I build a product using a component from company X, and company X's component infringes on that of another company, I'm still liable.
Company X can indemnify me per the licensing agreement, thus taking full on responsibility for any claims against me, but that doesn't appear to be the case with Android for one reason or another.

He's been in charge of Apple for the entire year pretty much. He's been doing quite well.
