The Storm weighs in at 5.65 oz...The Torch 4.76 oz. Less than an ounce lighter.
I beg to differ on this one. The plastic screen choice was RIM's decision to be cheap, same as their determination to not offer a 4" screen.
Cost consideration based on a bottom line that does not relate to the competition or take into account what the end user base considers to be attractive.
There is a reason Android devices are eaten them alive in market share. RIM should hug their pushed email. Its really all they have.

Yes there is, the reason is because Google has been flooding the market with literally dozens of uber-cheap low end phones.
Let's not pretend that average consumers really care, or evev know about the mobile OS their phone runs, they don't. I know several people who own Android phones, and whenever I say 'oh I see you have an Android phone' they immediately respond 'Android? What's that? This is a (Samsung/Motorola/Sony/HTC....insert manufacturer name here) phone.....'

Yes they are flooding the market with dozens of handsets, but they do have high end specs on many, and 4.3" screens, higher Mp cameras, dual core processors, glass screens, and a much better browsing experience than RIM offerings.
In the January CES, Verizon announced 4- 4G models, none of them BB.
Even this release of the 9850, skimps on screen size. Why couldn't RIM release it at 4 inches?
The Bold does not have a auto focus camera.
Its these decisions coupled with the Playbook without an email client nor 3G connectivity that is still defining RIM as running 3rd in a 4 horse race.

Yes, there are high end Android phones, and they cram tons of stuff into them, so much that the battery and processor can't handle it, and the battery life is crap, requiring charging daily, or even multiple times per day.
This specs war is going to kill the smartphone business because it is resulting in phones that can barely be used as phones.
And this problem exists across all manufacturers, from the HTC Thunderbolt to the Droid Incredible.
I for one wonder how long Android will continue to be around if they continue shoveling out these behemoth phones that are barely even functional.
No one has ever complained that a Blackberry can't keep a charge, in fact, Blackberries are LEGENDARY for their battery life, going 2-3 day...

No matter how you spin it, if Rim had their act on right, they wouldn't have lost handset market share from 28% down to 11%. The devices do not excite the buying public. This OS7 refresh will be obsolete within a year when QNX surfaces.
The 9850 is nothing more than a Storm2 with better numbers. It appears they've missed the boat with hardware construction, markedly with the plastic screen as just one example.
And most reviews on the PlayBook site the lack of that Email client as a major omission. Consumer Reports in their latest electronics addition does not recommend the Playbook for that reason alone.
Aside from the fact there are no appreciable apps for the device, developers are not flocking to develop for OS7 either, inasmu...
