DT still doesn't want T-Mo and this doesn't mean that the deal won't go through. AT&T has plenty tricks up it's sleeve. Plus, the DOJ also did this to the Google ITA deal then approved it after Google agreed to certain restrictions. So I wouldn't be celebrating just yet. Even if it's blocked, we could still face the possibility if losing our beloved T-Mo. Worst case scenario would be to carrier like Sprint. That would be catastrophic.

T-Mobile has value as a stand alone carrier. Perhaps if this deal falls through some venture capital would go that direcction instead. Think outside of the box.

If they deal falls through, they get a $7 billion profit boost from the break-up package. That's like a NICE capital infusion to either stay stand-alone without additional investment from the parent, or a nice incentive package to find another merger partner, this time with DT taking more control of the combined entity.

Actually worse case scenerio would be DT dropping them completely and TMO going belly-up dropping all their emps/customers on their butts. If we think about this, ATT buying tmo is great for at least the employees. They get a chance to keep their jobs.
If TMO goes bellyup those same emps have to go and try to get the jobs that att and vzw and sprint are already laying off/outsourcing.
This buyout is just the start. Next few years will be interesting, keep an eye on Sprint and also the little prepaid guy known as Cricket. Big Red will be making a move.

But some of their employees will still lose their jobs especially in the areas where ATT and TMO overlap.

Which is MOST (I'm sure 95% +) of T-Mo's markets.

No, DT could spin off T-Mobile USA, or sell it to some group of investors. Or perhaps Sprint. T-Mobile won't just evaporate. The assets are worth way too much.

I can only hope Rich. You know what honestly. Lnog as Sprint has nothing to do with it, I'm completely fine with whatever happens to T-Mo. Just stay away from Sprint.

Why not Sprint? They match well in spectrum. Upgrading the Tmob network to LTE alongside its own would be rather productive I would think. Sprint pretty much lost me when I realized I wasn't getting 4G in my new hometown so I switched to Tmob. I'm very impressed with the speeds. Other than Sprint not having 4G where I live, I think they are a great company. A Sprint/Tmob merger of some sort could possibly create a powerful 3rd alternative to the 2 powerhouses.

Sprint is a mess. Very poorly run company. Bad marketing, bad customer service. They have a history of abandoning technologies and making bad business decisions. Plus they're a CDMA carrier - Yuck! Totally not in the best interest of T-Mo subscribers.

Sprint has made tremendous improvements across the board. While not totally resolved, Sprint is not the same company it was three years ago. I can make this judgement based on having them through these times. They are worth another chance.

CDMA and GSM are different, But LTE is the same. Since most carriers have announced supporting the LTE platform, Sprint and Tmobile are more compatible than one might think. They will both use the same technology. Sprint is in the process of consolidating their network by eliminating IDEN and converting this for CDMA. CDMA and GSM can and will be used concurrently until LTE is full phase. At that time, most will be transitioned to LTE.

This is a dumb statement Polterchrist as we all know that AT&T will be shedding jobs that will overlap with the merger. And 9 out of 10 times it will be the TMO employees losing their job before an AT&T employee does.

Yeah people who make statements like that (merger is good for keeping jobs), have apparently never been through a merger.

All of the mergers that I have been through, I have seen thousands of people lose their jobs. Even ones that were initially kept, were purposely weeded out, because the company wants their own people. This happens regardless of what rhetoric the company says.
