Absurd

The fact that everyone will ditch Verizon because of a Samsung phone (which will be out dated by another Verizon phone withing 2 monhts) is absurd. I hate everyone who thinks that it is a good idea. Get over yourself.

Agreed.

I have no problems or love with Verizon, but someone switching carriers just because the new phone isn't "new" enough is stupid. Here on the central coast of California, AT&T has the most towers and best coverage, period, and if someone were to get all pissy at AT&T because they bumped a phone release date (or didn't release one) and went to T-Mobile or Sprint because they have "better selection", they'd be stuck with sub-par coverage here. Simple as that.

Technology evolves and things get better and faster within months, sometimes even weeks. Get a phone that works and go with it.

Really now? then please explain why Verizon switched over to an I-phone when they first told Apple to take a hike? Sorry but that arguement doesn't hold water. We have people here at my company that couldn't wait to get an I-phone and hated AT&T but guess what they wanted that phone!!

Verizon loves control, just like apple. Obviously apple wouldn't let VZW put VZ nav, VZ music, etc etc on the iPhone so VZW thought they didn't want it. They saw how incredibly successful the phone was for both AT&T and Apple, and eventually realized they wanted the phone. Turns out they love money more than control. So yeah dude, the argument does hold water.

The iPhone made them money. Isn't that the object of a business? I am pretty sure you don't open a business while saying "I can wait to decimate my savings and my long term investment." You my good sir, suck.

Then drop the stupid argument about switching carriers over a phone that doesn't hold water with ANYONE except a Verizon employee!! and from your posts I'm betting your one! Again not getting this phone was just as DUMB as when Verizon didn't get the I-phone when it first came out and then they did a 180!!! Hilarious!!

I do work for Verizon. I applaud your slueth abilities, however your logic is still in question. Switching to a different carrier because of a new cell phone is, as I put earlier, absurb. Especially when Sprint "can't even hold water" to Verizon. Now, if Sprint has better coverage in your area, then by all means switch. But it is economically foolish to switch everytime you see something shiny catches your eye. There will be more ETF's and deposits than hungry people in Africa. We did get the iPhone later. You are correct, we should have gotten it sooner, but the dact remains that we still have it and Verizon's iPhone 4 is the most up-to-date iPhone 4 on the market. I will smash your faux-intellect as Verizon smashes Sprint's network.

I think what Macdawgg is trying to say is that, VZW deciding to pass on the GS2, is the beginning of the catering just as ATT did for Apple. ATT purposely turned away Android phones or locked the ones they had down, just so potential costumers would migrate to the IPhone. I've been victim of such practice. Looking for a phone and sales reps directing me to the iPhone.

The Galaxy series has been selling extremely well in the industry. A definite attraction for millions of people.

VZW knows that their reputation for turning device sales into profits, is attractive for manufacturers. They also know that their reputation for the network, is why people stay. With Apple currently engaged with intensive litigation with Samsung, Verizon is g...

Yes, that does suck. I personally hate the iPhone. But to each his own. Regardless of my personal feelings for it, a lot od people like it and will buy it blindly. Verizon is a business, it is within their best interest to protect their investment. Yes, that Samsung phone is wonderful, but Verizon will come out with a better phone than that. The 4G is still in infancy, they aren't springing to release a gang of bugged phones.

thanks Jon but actually what I'm saying is I can't beleive Verizon would turn their backs on this phone. Do a google on this phone and the specs are amazing. Overseas it's a hit hands down and some experts are calling it a threat to the Bionic. I don't have a problem with the I-phone it's a great phone all my co-workers that have one love it!! and there is NO-WAY!! I'd pay $300.00 for a cell-phone thats crazy.

John B,
I honestly don't think that's the reason, blaming Apple and AT&T for all the ills of the wireless industry is a bit overbearing. Apple never had an agreement with AT&T and I'm sure its the same for VZW that stops them from selling another product. Its all up to the carriers.

I have no real concrete idea why they're not getting the SGS 2, but it could be an LTE version that maybe coming out soon thereafter mostly, and the Nexus Prime to a lessor extent. Again all rumors.

at&t turned down Android phones? Nonsense.

Let's recount the history here:

The first Android phone, the HTC Dream commonly known as the G1, was introduced in October 2008, running Android 1.0.

The second Android phone, the Motorola Droid, was introduced in October 2009 running Android 2.0

The first at&t Android phone was the Motorola Backflip, released in March 2010.

Exactly WHEN was there time, between October 2009, and March 2010, for at&t to reject Android phones?

Pretty feeble rejection...

"but the fact remains that we still have it and Verizon's iPhone 4 is the most up-to-date iPhone 4 on the market."

Huh? Care to explain this? THe iPhone on the Verizon network is definitely not superior to the GSM model. The EVDO rev A network is definitely slower then HSPA. And of course everyone knows that the CDMA version can't run a data connection and voice call simultanously. And the CDMA model has received updates slower. So how tell me.........how is Verizon's iPhone 4 "the most up-to-date iPhone 4 on the market"?

That doesn't even make sense dude, what are you trying to say?!?

Verizon has been going from techs/sales/customer service to 'one-rep' for a little while now. Besides, you don't need to be a brain surgeon to fix 95% of the problems that happens to these phones.

And i don't even know what you're trying to say with call center reps doing nothing but shopping, sleeping in stores and traveling cross country. Maybe an english lesson might be in order or something.

That just proves that iPhone people are irrational, it doesn't prove that leaving a carrier to get a certain phone is a good idea.

Personally Cellstudent, I have heard the opposite. The article you linked, is obviously Apple's side of the story and I find it is masking much of the truth.

Apple works on the premise of being sold by weight, not by volume. Profits rather than numbers sold. My VZW colleague tells me that VZW did in fact get approached by Apple but the concessions were more than VZW was willing to risk on an "unproven, unknown product". At the time, VZW had nothing to lose by turning away the iPhone. ATT had nothing to lose by accepting it. Apple wanted one top player in carrier status to initiate the "Experimental" product. However, their vertically integrated ecosystem, was remain intact. Tmobile and Sprint were not candidates unless ATT refuted th...

Truthfully, I'm inclined to believe the 'Apple Insider' story, Apple didn't want to create two versions of the same product, which means that they would have to go with a GSM network so that they could sell the exact same thing overseas, and at&t is the biggest GSM network with the fastest 3G network that existed at the time, so at&t would logically be the first choice.
