Basic Question for New Chocolate Phone

rza

I just got the new chocolate phone from Verizon. I have all my music on an external hardrive hooked up to my computer. I have a few questions.

1. Do I have to get the Essential Music Kit from Verizon to sync my music with my phone?

2. Once I get my music on my phone, can you make a song your personal ringer?

Thanks in advance for anyones help.

a.1 yes you will need the music kit only because you need the cable that only is offered by verizon.

a.2 one of the best parts of the phone is that you can set your mp3's as ringtones. right now thats the best phone out there. As we all know any phone that is new will have some bugs, but you will probably in the future be able to get software upgrades. i strongly recomend an extended life battery because I phone that the battery it comes with is cheap. so invest on a better battery. you will be glad that you did. it's an awsome phone.

1. Not true. You do not need the music essential kit. All you need is a microSD card and a card reader. You can transfer them to the card, then put the card in the phone.

Yes, you can use music as ringtones. There are tons of threads on both of these topics in the phone forum itself.

If you are trying to transfer alot of music to a card use a card reader. The data cable is really slow. I don't know the exact rate, but it takes 20-30sec per song. My card reader takes 10-20sec per album at most.
Another annoyance is that if you get a call or text during transfer, the transfer stops and I have yet to see it reconnect.
I think the headset came in the essentials pack so unless you want an aftermarket headset that is the one reason to buy it.

I'm assuming this phone doesn't have OBEX...

According to manual it supports these types of profiles: HSP, HPP, DUN, OPP, A2DP, and AVRCP.
so far I have had limited success with it's bluetooth, it won't hold a connection with the headset I had laying around (GN Netcom 6210) but I haven't tried any more modern or common sets.
I got the headset to work on a RAZR however so it may have been my limited bluetooth knowledge. I should try it again on the Chocolate.

my gf just got this phone today, and im thinking of returning my samsung a930 fo rit because the music managing is so easy. she had songs uploaded via a car in a bout 2 sec. wheres ive had mine for a week with the music essentials kit and it wont fing work. crappy cable maybe. we havnt been able to upload the songs to a ringer yet, but im glad to hear its possible because thats why i like the ring capability. it should be mentioned that although u dont need to buy the music essentials kit, i think a micros card and a reader is more expensive than the essentials kit ($30).
