HP Decides to Kill Off webOS Devices, May License OS

Here's what needs to happen. HP should release webOS to any manufacturerwho will use it. I'm thinking LG would be a prime candidate. They could take webOS and turn it into an interface overlay to run on their android devices. This would keep the look and feel of webOS alive, which is what people loved about it in the first place, while allowing it to access the biggest competitive edge android has going for it: the apps, lack of which was a serious downfall for webOS devices. LG makes all sorts of electronics and appliances. By incorporating webOS into other things besides phones, such as tvs, fridges, washers, dryers, anything and everything LG makes, they could be a great partner for HP to bring their goal of using webOS on an ecosystem of products to reality. Imagine your printer, tv, fridge, and handset all communicating to make home automation seamless. LG can make decent hardware, and they have existing relationships with all the major carriers and a strong international presence. What their android phones are lacking is something unique to make them stand out against Samsung and HTC devices with touchwiz and sense. A webOS overlay would give them wow factor, a reason for their device to stand out from the crowd, without sacrificing the apps and capabilities of android. Then on top of that, sharing an interface with a whole family of non phone products made by LG and HP would take android as an OS way beyond phones into the rest of the technological universe.
