Actually, both Lightsquared and the government knew about the issue going into the agreement. The government leased the band to Lightsquared on the condition they, Lightsquared come up with a way to not cause interference to the GPS system since that band was set up for space to ground only, not terrestrial use. The idea was for LS to engineers to come up with a solution, and prove to the government that there would be no interference .If it can't be figured out by Lightsquared engineers, the deal is off...that is the agreement with the government and I think it is a good one.. Now LS doesn't seem to be able to figured it out so they want a buffer, wasting spectrum..not part of the deal. There is no government screw up at all.. The only reason the GPS system was set up 30 years ago was for military navigation and not for consumer use..It is darn near's consumer grade receivers that are the issue, and LS knew they had to not interfere with those are not going to replace millions of receivers...the FCC is absolutely doing their job..
