What's With the V3xx Case?

Rich, do you have -any idea- whatsoever why Motorola would choose to put the V3xx in that old case? It seems like such an incompetent move, I figure there's a method to their madness that I just can't see.

Will it be cheaper this way or something?

It's actually based on a phone they already developed for DoCoMo in Japan: the M702iS. If it looks old, it's probably because development started a while ago when the RAZR first started to become popular, and DoCoMo decided they wanted a version for their FOMA network. I'm guessing it took a while to develop just because Motorola is not very used to working with DoCoMo.

I think they added HSDPA and brought it to Europe and the rest of Asia simply because it was somehow the fastest way to bring an HSDPA phone to market - base it on an existing design rather than create a whole new phone.

Don't worry, the MAXX is basically what the XX should have been, and shouldn't be out too much later after the XX.
