That and its not like t-mobile is competition anyways. They have horrible coverage. 40 percent of my new customers return their service due to coverage.

I dont know why people assume that at&t will begin raising prices if the sale goes through. They still have to compete against Verizon and Sprint. They cant just raise theyre prices without expecting a backlash. Verizon charges $30 for 2GB of data per month which is more than anybody else. Did they just buy a company or merge with anyone else? No. If a company wants to raise prices they will, but not because of an aquisition.

Companies will only raise their prices as high as they can get away with without scaring their subscribers away to the arms of another company. The fact that there are four major carriers means that AT&T needs to worry about three other companies before they make changes.

With one out of the way, it would be less to worry about.

Three major carriers will not lessen competition. There are still plenty of smaller carriers that can step up to the plate and spark more competition. Besides, I believe ATT's intent is to raise prices on their plans. That just wouldn't make any since. I've mentioned this before, ATT just might adopt Tmobile's current plans, at the least, some hybrid of their plans. Why not take the best of what a company has to offer and let it work for you? It's clear some people just aren't going to be happy, no matter what.

Problem is, there are some spots where you can only get good GSM reception, others where you can only get CDMA. I see this is cities all over california. Those people would like to have a choice as to where they can go, not just ATT. Also, the ability to unlock the phones and go overseas is a HUGE deal. I know there are some specialized phones for VZW and Sprint that have a gsm radio, but those are few and far between and can be cost prohibitive. Having only 1 major GSM carrier is a monopoly in my opinion and ATT will gouge the piss out of their pricing if this comes to fruition. The only people who stand to gain from this are ATT stock holders. The customers are going to suffer.

does anyone realize that att is already rolling in cash, enough to buy t-mobile and anything else they wanted 10 times over, idk why they would be like "gotcha!" after the t-mobile merger and raise there price, they already make plenty of money.

That's a terrible statement because that statement depends entirely on your location. There are some locations with very limited competition as it stands right now.

There is a reason we have antitrust laws out there. It's not some myth, it'

Didn't get to finish my sentence.

It's not some myth, it's been proven before that companies will operate in their best interest (which is fine), in an unethical manner (which is not fine). If it is all just bologna then AT&T would not have been broken up back in the 80s.

And, I do agree. The merger does not guarantee that prices will go up. In fact, not having the merge go through does not guarantee that prices will go down. There is no way to guarantee that. But, it is logical to say that it is far more likely that AT&T will be less competitive if they gain this merger than if they don't. Does that necessarily mean a price increase? No, and it doesn't have to. It could cause stagnation, which is also bad.

I think and not positive, the FCC has some control over the costs of roaming and interconnection fees(between carriers). Seeing MetroPCS, Cricket etc.... are CDMA, AT&T being GSM has no effect.

All I'm saying is, some of the more established smaller carriers could get into GSM. They could invest in handsets that could ride both signals. Verizon has did it but, has little motivation to focus on it, as they are pretty established as a major company and don't have customer base issues.

With that being said, if a couple of these smaller carriers invested in GSM tech and offered competitive rates, they could easily fill that void. Customer base would grow because there are plenty of people who gravitate to them. Besides, I realize that LTE is still far from being the norm but, it will not be long before it is and a few of the top smaller carriers are starting to invest in that LTE. So, in the end, will GSM really matter all that muc...

I couldn't agree more with the fact that all that will happen is another Carrier will be the new number four in the way of major carriers.

Also based off past Merger's (Cingular and AT&T) (Sprint and Netxel) (Verizon and Cell-One) what will happen is you'll keep your same price plan until your contract expires or you change on your own. The meantioned mergers also offered upgrades to people that -just- got phones to get them on there price plans.

So every T-Mobile person that wants to goto AT&T will have a new phone available to them doesn't sound like the end of the cell world as we know it does it?

Alltel was a Regional Carrier providing service to 34 of the 50 states (service to the other 16 states was through roaming on VZW and Sprint) and they only acquired 12.9 million customers. They were forced to divest about 130 service areas.

I LOL'ed extensively reading your post. The title of your thread when compared to what you wrote and your apparent inability to communicate above the fourth grade level provided me with a few minutes of good entertainment.

So Mr. Pot, have you met my new friend Mr. Kettle?
