No it really doesn't, anymore than BP or Shell competing with Exxon Mobile. Its called a cartel or oligopoly.

Nope, not really. And even less so after this Tmo buyout. It is expected that Verizon will buy Sprint (ignore what Verizon is saying now about it -- just self-serving nonsense to confuse the regulators).

Not really either, because prepaid is NOT a separate carrier and network. Its all based on the same national networks. This means that Verizon or AT&T (or Sprint if it is still around) can change prepaid rates on a month's notice. ...

I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and just assume your keyboard didn't let you include that missing a in "heard".
I am quite sure the person you're quoting has heard of the providers you mentioned. Of the three I am quite sure that at least two are MVNOs. If you don't know what that is, well than you shouldn't be discussing the wireless industry.
But more importantly, none of these carriers are even a blip on either AT&T or Verizon's radar. And what I mean by that, is that their capacity as a company to offer significant challenges to AT&T or Verizon's customer base is a pipe dream. Do you k...

Anyways,back to the topic. MVNO is irrelevant to what I posted (It was competition in case you forgot).
FYI MetroPCS has been in the process of building LTE 4G towers all over the states. Since the end of 2010 if I'm not mistaken.
