Why come out with better phones & apps? People will eventually forego data altogether...

Verizon & AT&T are either obnoxiously expensive (VZW has new $100 data add-on per line!) or have low caps. TMO caps you at 5GB, Cricket caps at 1GB! Now Virgin will at 2.5GB (Boost sure to follow). That leaves just Sprint with Unlimited Data and that is sure to die too. My question is, why come out with better, faster smartphones that can do way more in terms of audio & video streaming & data intensive apps then cap that data at such low amounts you can't use the functions the phone was made for or charge so much money, many can't afford to pay for it. I predict all this data rationing/price gouging (can't networks UPGRADE their networks?) will be the start to the end of most people using/paying for data. It's just a rip-off that is gettin...

Because there's always Wi-Fi. And what $100 VZW add on do you speak of?

Go to Verizon's website & you will see that $100 12GB add-on. Just provision a plan and get to the add data page. Unlimited is gone & for $30 now you get 2GB. Total rip-off.

I know right? I thought to myself that I would have loved to be at that Verizon meeting were the big-shots decided on this lunacy. They must have been high out of their minds! 🤣 I cannot wait to see Verizon's Q3 subscriber numbers. I hope there is a wicked backlash for this.

"...come out with better, faster smartphones that can do way more in terms of audio & video streaming & data intensive apps then cap that data at such low amounts..."

Because people will pay for it. Data use is right up there with cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and sex. No matter how expensive it becomes people will pay for it.

I wonder at what point that people do say forget it. I fear you may be right but I hope you're wrong & people say enough is enough. I hope the T-Mobile-AT&T merger is denied but if approved I can't even imagine how ugly these caps & price gouging will get for data. Just 3 "real" (non-MVNO) networks imho = low caps & high rates for data. Will use my dual-booted Windows/Android HD2 with T-Zones unlimited $5.99 for as long as humanly possible.

Get 10 Gigabytes of data from T-Mobile for $60.00.

I agree that the dead-man walking T-Mobile is the best deal from a nationwide carrier by a country mile (especially now that VZW is a scam low-capped, high priced deal). 10GB for $60 is good. Even better is if you have them & can get T-Zones added by Loyalty. Then you can use a few different phones which offer 3G/4G, tether & you get truly unlimited data (no caps) for $5.99. Now that is a deal!!

Unlimited for $29.99 is better. And those of us who are grandfathered (for the most part) could care less. We are like the NBA players who agreed to a rookie maximum salary and nineteen year old age limit for American players... Doesn't affect us... Right? Sure, sure...

I agree with that too. I know the party for me at TMO with $5.99 unlimited 4G data on certain devices (it is limited!) is over though when AT&T takes over TMO. I will just switched to the smartest dumbphone I can get I guess. I had a line with Virgin for data on the go (TMO sucks outside metro areas) but with the price increase & now data caps along with the fact that service around me in Albuquerque has been atrocious lately, I just said forget it and sold my phone/transferred the account to someone else who hopefully has a better experience.

If you are lucky enough to have loyalty even agree to add that feature to your account, that is. You have to have some pretty good tenure with the company for loyalty to agree to do that, but if you can pull that off, yes, that is the best offer that is available. Or, you could just go with the 5 Gigabyte feature for $30.00 and ask loyalty about the Monthly Hotspot feature....
