Play Nice for now?

I wonder if AT&T is just posturing, allowing this, so they look like they're playing nice. Honestly, they probably figure its no big deal, since the Epic Fail I mean the PlayBook isn't exactly flying of the shelves.

The holdup probably had more to do with AT&T wanting an extra $20 from it's customers for web surfing. I don't think they really knew how to handle the Bridge app. It's a little unique.

They have sold 500,00 units with 900k more forecasted for 2nd quarter. Not a fail unless you are comparing it to ipad sales. In that comparison anything (Android, WebOS, QNX, whatever) would be an epic fail against an ipad in terms of sales. Apple has the market.

Yeah, you're probably right about that and they may not have expected it to do as well. But, my only thing is, why would RIM put out a product that relies on an app for email and other features that come standard on the phones themselves. The way I understand what I've read this far is, you need a BB phone to access and use the bridge app. That wasn't very smart. Everyone doesn't have or want a BB phone.

Someone help me understand how that works.

That' the point. RIM wants you buy a BB phone to access the bridge app.

Their sales are down and this is a way to keep their sales up and keep their investors happy. I really don't see this lasting long. Sooner or later they may make it compatible with other devices if this tablet doesn't sale much. Besides, there are other tablets to choose from like the iPad2 and the Samsung Galaxy tablet 10.1 which is soon to come. These tablets allow email without having to buy a certain device. iPad uses itunes to connect but thats a free s/w.

Their sales claim 500,000 were sold but that is the number of units that were delivered to retail outlets. No one really knows if even two of them sold.... 😛
RIM is in a death spiral and I have been a strong supporter of their products for years. I have a BOLD now but as soon as the iPhone 5 comes out - bye-bye Blackberry.
2 Bozo's at the top running it who refuse to see it or that it even needs to be fixed.

I think the 2 bozos know now. Out of Playbook comes the QNX operating system which will go into their phones next year.
Why not now? Look at what processor that is running the playbook. I believe it's a dual core CPU. Something similar will probably have to make it into their phone lineup for QNX to work well anyway. So what consumers will get this year are mildly improved phones with the usual memory and tweaked OS, a decent CPU upgrade and then they hope to wow people that only keep their phones anyway for an average of 10 days 🤣 (ok, I know its an exaggeration) with the coolest phone to have for the next 10 days.
Too early to tell if RIM will go down in flames at this point...they have tons of cash to burn through.

Yea, the 2 boz...

Don't get me wrong, I want them to succeed but come on - saying the iPhone will never catch on lol.

They need some fresh blood and it has to come from the outside and not under the influence of Bassilie or the other guy Lazarides or whatever.

It really is an instance of corporate inbreeding.
