Much ado about nothing.

I still amazes me how much noise is being made about this purchase. The original merger rumors for T-Mobile were with Sprint. I seriously doubt that Mr. Hess would be crowing so much if T-Mobile had accepted their offer instead of AT&T's. He has begun protesting so loudly and aroused so many other groups to gripe about this impending purchase that it is beginning to sound like sour grapes. There wasn't much, if any, protesting when Sprint bought Nextel. For that matter the rumors of the possible purchase of ClearWire hasn't brought the villagers out with torches and pitchforks. Where were all these protesters when Verizon bought out AlTel?

Yes, I do work for an agent of ATT, so some of my views are slanted in that direction. It is unfortu...

you so dumb!
the reason people would not be so concerned if it was Sprint and Tmobile merging is that two small players merging does not pose a threat to competition. ATT swallowing Tmobile is like eliminating Tmobile completely. ATT does not need TMobile. Sprint does need Tmobile. ATT just keeps getting fatter and fatter. They already own so much spectrum...all they want is to miss use what they have in their cluster fudge network

"You so dumb!" I think you missed an "'re" in there champ.

As far as "swallowing T-Mobile" it would happen anyways. Sprint doesn't need T-Mobile, they need the customer base. Sprint gets no benefit out of the purchase other than some blocks of spectrum and the cust. base. Sprint wouldnt be using the existing services considering they wont be using LTE so all the LTE rollout that they've already done will be useless and probably trashed.

I enjoy the use of "cluster f*ck" when talking about networks. Doesn't Sprint still have 3 different networks? The iDen, CDMA and its WiMax? At least AT&T is all GSM and wont be adding a 4th network type to the list.

The "you so dumb" was me being sarcastic...
anyways...
My point is the same as yours.. Sprint needs Tmobile, whether it is for their customer base or for their spectrum. I see that you know very little about networks actually. It's true most of ATT is GSM, but actually they are rolling out LTE which is not GSM. It is in fact a completely different technology. When I say "cluster f*ck", I'm referring to the way ATT uses chunks of spectrum disproportionately in different markets. The problem they face right now is because their voice and data channel are one and the same, their network capacity in dense cities is becoming cr*p. They use different band for uplink and downlink. They are responsible for their own network problems. They have the...

I must admit. The "you so dumb" remark made me cringe. You came back swinging though. Nice job! Save the sarcasm next time unless you make it obvious in some manner. Sarcasm is totally lost on some in print.

Ditto, thanks for clearing up the "you so dumb" statement, cause I felt the same way. As for the OP, it is obvious your view is more than slanted, its eff'n horizontal (like AT&ts mom...ohhh burn.../drunk rant). This is not your fault of course, you are not the first, nor will you be the last, to fall victim to corporate brainwashing. AT&T doesn't give 2 sh*ts about "rural America" nor are they interested in making the transition for Tmobile customers easy in any manner other than that which avoids a mass exodus. This is good for nobody except AT&T...they know it, and even us "lil folk" know it.

I agree with Phoneman J that it would be a better transition to have both GSM networks under 1 company, As T-mobile has bought most of the Old AT&T wireless network. That being said, Sprint would have ran the T-mobile network into the ground. Sprint purchasing T-mobile would have destroyed them. Sprint can barely take care of the 2 networks they have now, so adding a 3rd would have been an end for both companies.

Dont get me wrong, I am not a fan of AT&T! And you have to admit, Spint would not be a good option for a purchaseof T-mobile. Lets face it. Mostlikely this merger will go through, unless some other company puts in a better bid to purchase T-mobile. Either way, if Sprint or AT&T purchases T-mobile. I will mostlikely be out of a j...

What you guys fail to understand is that AT&T can not manage what they have allready. The Sprint CEO has basically called them out. AT&T claims they need T-Mobile to get LTE out faster and etc.. but sprint comes back and says well if you use X Y Z of what you have it can be done. AT&T is not being smart in their technology uses and that is why alot of people have concerns. Did verizon say we need to buy sprint in order to deploy LTE??? No... sprint runs a great network but they are not as large as AT&T and Verizon.... Sprint has shown FCC that it is a smart thinking company that can smartly manage and deploy netowrk technology in a quick pace. I just recently took a trip out to boonies and AT&T still doesnt have 3G deployed to those location...

No your wrong on that. 85% of the TMO customer "may" be covered but not anywhere near 85% of their network is HSPA+ or even just 3G. In fact, I would guesstimate that 85% of their entire network is only EDGE speed. I know from living in Chicago & now Albuquerque & traveling frequently by car (been to Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego, Denver, SLC) that the moment you leave a metro area with TMO, you are done or dramatically slower at EDGE or GPRS speeds. Got so tired of it, I had to get a Virgin Mobile Optimus to enjoy just 3G outside of metro areas. AT&T isn't much better outside metro areas. Verizon is supreme in this category, but you have to give up your first born to afford it.

Since Sprint, with considerably fewer resources, has built and maintained a network universally acknowledged to be superior to at&t's; this is really more like Einstein trying to explain his great idea to a retard than the other way around.

Now if Sprint were attempting to tell at&t how to expand their customer base with relentless and misleading advertising, or through never ending aquisitions and purchasong subscribers so as to never have to compete by improving their network then I might agree with you.

How much has Sprints Market Capitalization decreased in the past few years, how much money have they lost? And except for the last quarter or two, how many customers have have they lost? That is a fact, and not some universally superior nonsense.

And since when did this have anything to do with Sprint's market share etc? No one is disputing the fact so I don't see why you are so zealously pointing it out at every turn. What you call "universally superior nonsense", us "universally superior" people call "common sense". You are missing the point entirely. We are not saying that Sprint deserves or should be allowed to buy tMobile when AT&T should not. It is only implied that a merger between Sprint and tMobile would, technology differences (GSM/CDMA) not withstanding, be better for the consumer than a merger between AT&T and tMobile if a merger was to be permitted at all (it shouldn't). You make it sound as if the more money a company is raking in/raping from the public determines...

Which is why neither should be allowed to. AT&T and Verizon bought spectrum at the last two auctions clearly to keep a new player from getting into the game. This needs to stop.

The FCC should force them to use ALL tge spectrum they already have! ATT doesn't deserve all the customers they have. Iphobe cuatomwrs who want unlimited data should have gone to Vzn whike unlimited was still available.

5wks and I'm still not adjust to this stupid all touch phone! It really, really frustrates me that Vzn refuses to provide any CHOICE with 4G smartphones, none with REAL slide-out physical keyboards. With the upcoming Droid Bionic it will be FOUR 4G smartphones that all gave 4.3 inch touchscreens ALL lacking a real/physical keyboard, it's extremely frustrating not having any choice.
