Behind because their resources went into the playbook. They chose to wage war in the tablet market which I think was stupid short term. Long term they will get QNX out of it.
Shareholders are very upset right now I hear

BB sure has taken a beating since Android entered the game. I remember reading an article on Yahoo quite a while ago about BB users defecting to Android.

I think any non-corporate user still will defect. There is more out there for them.
I was talking to my "evil big red" rep a couple of days ago and he was saying that Android is getting there from a business perspective. Still security issues. It's still not a mature platform yet.

Before the smartphone explosion RIM was for businesses and I think thats where they are going back to.

Who knows...things change so rapidly.

Do you think this is something that can be dealt with using some sort of enterprise app, or it has to be at the OS level?

RIM has been around for a long time marketing to corporate users. They have a huge head start in that environment. So does windows mobile.
I believe it's more at the OS level.
Android and IOS were built for a broader market. Nothing a little time won't fix. They have gained such mass acceptance everything is changing quickly.

The list of improvements coming out in the next IOS is amazing. for example

Yea, RIM is going to take a big hit short term. I know shareholders aren't happy. There is no way this is a repeat of what happened to Palm though.

there is a quote in this article that sums up what I think very well

"In a recent interview with BGR, Verizon Wireless CMO Marni Walden confirmed there will indeed be three new devices coming to Verizon before years end.

With the company going through a transition period, do you see Research In Motion being a strong part of your lineup in the future?

I do. RIM is still very, very important in the enterpri...

Funny...as an owner of a blackberry I always said that about any other "smartphone". Guess what? iphone users say the same thing about Android and RIM.
They are all computers with a phone app in there somewhere and they run thousands and thousands of apps.

Some are pretty, some flashy, some more suited to business which is what blackberries really are.

I remember all the hype that preceded Blackberry 6 and that just came and went without much notice. I see more and more businesses adopting 'other' devices and creating apps for their businesses to make them more productive. So sad that RIM is flailing around lately like a fish out of water....

If RIM is 'flailing' may we all have such bad luck......poor RIM..earning the highest profit margins in its history, such a tragedy.... 🙄

Let's be honest here, 00% of the 'oh RIM is in big trouble' articles are because the tech media are so in love with Apple and Google that they can barely bring themselves to acknowledge the existence of other companies....it's all fad driven, and the tech media are extremely juvenile, always searching for the next toy.....

Your right. They are doing really well globally. Their issues are more with US market share.

Oi.....shareholders look beyond the pail of opinionatedness around the web and look at the numbers and insight from tech/financial analysts. When I had my blackberry, RIM was hot and many of my associates were eagerly awaiting the new OS6 devices and everything that was hyped to be coming down the pipeline. With the less than impressive Torch launch everything just went stagnant. I don't know a single person who owns a Playbook and it looks to have fallen flat right out of the gate. But hey...if you have that much faith in the once great RIM go ahead and pick up a few shares....they're 20% off now. http://www.canadianbusiness.com/article/30345 --rim-stock-drops-more-than-20-per-cent-to-lo west-level-in-nearly-five-years
