Question for Eric.

Eric,

I currently own the EVO 4G. I was really thinking of trading up to the 3D. However, I am disappointed with the results of the review section on 4G and 3G connectivity. This has me rethinking my purchase.

My question is, what is the comparison of the 3D and the EVO 4G for signal? Did the tests not prove similar for both? In other words, were the two performed under the exact same tests but with two different outcomes?

Here in upstate NY, my EVO has performed with excellence. I will be basing my purchase according to the results of this comparison.

If the EVO 4G suffered the same degradation in your area during tests, I might assume the EVO 3D will most likely remain equivalent to what the EVO 4G is performing currently i...

Just so you know he clearly said that he gets only one bar in NJ where he lives and sprint is hardly ever any good there. I dont think that is a fair review. I live in portland, or where we are a tester city and get everytyhing first. My 4g is always top notch, it never lags, i never drop calls, I have a rooted evo and even my 3g wireless hotspot is fantastic other than downloading music. I think if your going to do do a review on a phone that will be more successful than the previous you should spend 200 bucks and fly here where you will get good results. And the battery life, try turning off all the syncs and weather that updates ever 3 minutes, that kills the battery. I easily can go 2 days without having to charge my phone.

I think Eric's reviews are lame but to suggest he fly some where that sprint doesn't suck has to be the most silly suggestion I could think of...if anything doing reviews from the same spot will have a consistent results. Maybe Sprint should just suck less in his area!

Obviously i was not serious. Whats ridiculous is to live in an area that does not have the best possible service with only one provider. Every company has not the best service in certain locations depending on terrain and tower location. If you are going to rate phones be in an area that has the best of all carriers so its an even playing ground. Not judge sprint on his location. Its a unfair review, period.

Your videos are just dull to me. The best reviewers exude confidence and personality, you do not.

I don't have an EVO 4G on hand to do a direct comparison.

However, PCMag *did* do a direct comparison with an EVO 4G and also found that the EVO 3D performs terrible with respect to 3G voice quality and data.

My result was not unique.

Also, I test phones not just in my home, where I admit that Sprint has somewhat weak service, but I drive all over New Jersey. I have a 20-mile circuit that I follow and test how the phone operates in both strong and weak network areas. That's important to test.

I also tested the phone in New York City, which is 35 miles from where I live.

You can't ever say that I don't give each and every phone a fair chance.

Hi Eric,

Please do not take my questions as being unfair. I am not some of the young in this forum. 😁 I realize that you perform tests that are readily available to you and I do rely on Phone Scoop for accurate info. My question was legitimate in regards to whether you performed the same test for both the EVO 4G and the EVO 3D. I just want to know if the antennuation is equal to the original EVO.

I have seen other reviews on the 3D with the results resembling yours.

I guess I may purchase the 3D and hope the signal reception is. as good as the EVO 4G. That is the info I am looking for.

Thanks!

In your initial review you did not mention that you went traveling to new york. It just says mainly in your home in NJ. If you did all that then that is a completely different story and it sounds like the phone and not the service. But from your first review it sounded like you dont have good service where you live and you did not test other well known good markets. at least that was how I perceived your review..

Every single phone I review, I test from multiple points. Sure, I test every phone from my home, but I also have a series of routes for each and every carrier where I can test phone performance under both good and bad network conditions.

That's part of what I do. I don't mention it in every review because I felt that was understood by readers. If it isn't then I'll see about correcting that in future reviews.
