On Verizon LTE I get 3-7mbps upload speeds, sometimes even a little higher

It is a big whoop for Sprint customers who are happy where they are and don't want or have access to Verizon LTE. If the company can provide its customers a 50% increase, I applaud them for the effort.

I'll still be using my D Charge though.

Thats the only good thing about the charge. Its a expensive phone with just a fancy screen. It's made cheap though. The screen took away a lot of features it could have had. not worth the money at all.

Three thoughts:

1. Clear WiMAX operates in 10 MHz of spectrum; VZW LTE operates in 20 MHz of spectrum. On a per MHz basis, 1.5 Mbps is roughly comparable to 3 Mbps.

2. Clear can deploy numerous WiMAX channels in its BRS 2500-2600 MHz spectrum; VZW can deploy only one LTE channel its Upper 700 MHz spectrum. In other words, Clear can readily add capacity per existing site; VZW cannot unless it shifts to Cellular 850 MHz, PCS 1900 MHz, or AWS 2100+1700 MHz spectrum.

3. How often do you need uplink speeds faster than 1.5 Mbps? Jay, you have bragged that you wirelessly download porn. Do you upload it, too?

Very funny, don't want to think about Jay actively producing porn and needing high upload speeds.

Seperate question AJ: If Clear switches to LTE what kind of speeds can we expect from them? Also are they restricted to a different LTE version TDD or FDD??? (sorry a little lost on LTE terminology) Will this produce different results?

Clear's WiMAX deployment is 10 MHz TDD mobile profile. For LTE, Clear is testing both TDD and FDD profiles -- certainly 10 MHz TDD and 5x5 MHz or 10x10 MHz FDD, probably 20 MHz TDD, and possibly 20x20 MHz FDD. The most seamless transition would be, obviously, to LTE 10 MHz TDD.

LTE band classes are detailed in this table:

For TDD operation, Clear LTE would be in band class XL...

Just wait until people start actually using that LTE network in significant numbers....you'll see that speed drop dramatically....

Bottom line is it's easy to provide quick speeds when no one is using the network.

Isn't the 700mhz frequency suppose to have room for a whole lot more users?

No, not really. Bandwidth is bandwidth. So, 10 MHz of spectrum at 700 MHz has basically the same capacity as does 10 MHz of spectrum at 850 MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz, etc.
