Quantum Leap for iOS

This is the biggest change we've ever seen to iOS, and it's a quantum leap altogether. (I'm running iOS5 on my iPhone 4 and iPad)

1) The Split Keyboard on the iPad is a MUCH needed feature. Much much MUCH needed. Using it is so much better, it totally vindicates the iPad's form factor. This device is a million times more usable.

2) The Notifications Bar is stolen from Android- not going to argue that. It's also a marked improvement over Android's, serving as the Widget dock and having built in side-scrolling (yes, iOS has real widgets now!) . The weather widget is fantastic on it.

3) Built-in Twitter client in native apps is terrific- possibly the closest you can get to real multitasking. Already hooked on it.

I actually agree and appreciate that you were honest about the notifications bar. I'm impressed with iOS 5. Some were bitching that it looks boring and Apple performed no UI changes. For me honestly I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Same for Mac OS X. It looks good and it works. When you companies like SamSUCK blatantly copying it, you know you must be doing something right

I may just buy an iPhone 5. Just kidding. I'm a die hard fandroid and happily admit it. Android is a mess but I still love it. Maybe it's the geek in me. But I do give Apple props for at least listening to their customers.

Google has all of the stuff they need to build the best baked-in cloud on a mobile OS out there. They just need a good UI team. Google docs needs desperate attention, google voice is fantastic, background sync needs to cover more things (in-app data, text messages, system settings) and not just contacts. And all of this needs to be "baked into" the core of the OS and refined to the point of mindless simplicity, one login covers it all.

Apple definitely copied the best when it came to notifications. No doubt about that. But I want to see more out of google than a huge push for higher specs and new features. They already have the features they need, they just need to make them work together!

You do realize the split keyboard comes directly Microsoft's early build of Windows 8?

So that ain't original either.

I've even seen this in app betas for Android phones and tablets before the Windows 8 announcement. SwiftKey ftw.
