[insert sprint has been trying to replace iden for 10 years joke here]

How in the heck some crap trunk radio standard from 1994 outperforms Sprint's multibillion dollar CDMA network performing the exact same task is one of the top 10 mysteries of civilization.

has nothing to do with IDEN performance, it has to do with spectrum... IDEN is just a technology used... Spectrum can be used for anything depending on the band it can be GSM, CDMA, LTE. this is HUGE for Sprint and its part of there new Vision project to get that 800 spectrum working for there cdma network, at 800 mhz that's excellent building penetration and super fast data speeds.. smart move by Sprint.

Make sure to tell your boss you posted this so he can put a few extra $$ on your paycheque, Mr.Sprint.

He corrected somebody who was clearly not well informed on how the technology works. Considering all the other misinformation usually on these boards, I'd thank him. Not everything needs a smart ass response.

I know this is ironic, coming form the normal smart ass in the room, but its all about timing.

Heh...misinformed.

Good luck putting CDMA and LTE on randomly scattered 30KHz channels in the 800MHz band. You do know that it would need to be contiguous in order for it to work, right?

This is nothing more than leveraging the IDEN PTT functionality as a stop gap due to all the failed attempts to "replace" it.

And it's a good thing that post-rebanding the spectrum will indeed be contiguous.

What part of "this has been the plan since they bought Nextel" don't you understand?

I believe the first poster was trying to make a point about PTT performance, and it's a valid point. First they had, ReadyLink and then CDMA DIrect Connect... yet neither performs nearly as well as iDEN when it comes to PTT.

Now they are working on yet another new CDMA-based PTT technology to replace iDEN. We can only hope that the third time's a charm.

The spectrum issue is also very important, but it's mostly a separate issue. It's only related in that they need to get a good CDMA-based replacement PTT technology working before shutting down iDEN completely.

800 MHz is better for building penetration, but there is nothing inherent about that band that makes it better for data. In fact, if anything, higher frequencies are better for faster data.
