Seeing how they don't allow rollover on current data plans...

HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

I wonder if shared data plans max out at 2GB too, them thinking it would be enough.

2GB is an ungodly low amount of data....freaking irritating how they think this amount will suffice. Stream 2 movies and you're done for the month.

98% of att smart phone users use less than 2GB of data per month. in fact most users around 400mB per month. if you use more you should pay more (sounds fair to me) or go clog someone elses network

How about we just let the carrier charge a lot of extra money for whatever it is you personally use. Sounds fair to me!!!!

right, and your not a profitable customer, the rest of verizon customers are subsidizing your huge amout of data usage. jay, you are a wireless industry guru, i see you on here all the time. what makes you think that you are a typical user? you are a data hog and clog what ever network you are on.

I don't consider 7.6 GB of data being a data hog, not when these phones are freely advertised for such use. Having tiered data is one thing, giving 2 GB of data is too low.

I have been using roughly 4-5GB of data on T-Mobile's network for about 7 years now. What are you, the data police? How the h@ll do you know how much they are making or losing with him? Maybe they are losing money with you because you are talking or texting too much. Maybe they are losing money with you because they give you phone upgrades too cheaply. Heckuva nerve b!tch!ng about what others do. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS JAG! He pays for it, SO he can use it how he pleases.

I use about 5GB a month and my wife uses 4GB. I really don't feel we use it most of the time either. I guess the guys using 400MB must be just getting emails or something. If you have data & a capable smartphone, I find it impossible to believe that 98% of these people use only 400MB or less. How silly that would be! Like buying a train ticket from L.A. to N.Y. and getting off at Las Vegas. Why not just buy a dumpy phone like a Razr or something if you are going to use that pathetic amount of data?

You make perfect sense to me. I can understand if somebody is using 40gb or 50gb on a mobile device, but we aren't. Go after the abusers. We pay these companies good money, they should at le...

I have four smartphones on my account, three days left in the billing cycle and the SUM OF ALL FOUR phones is less than 2 GB.

I think you're the one with unreasonable data package expectations. The vast majority of Americans spend the vast majority of their waking life either in their homes or in their workplace. It's not hard to install WiFi at most homes and workplaces.

The vast majority of people who are burning through more than 2 GB of cellular data every month are those too cheap to put in a DSL line.

Unlikely that data will rollover. However, I think they will probably add a 5, 10 and maybe 20gig plans. Although, 2gigs is not a whole lot of data but, I think for most people who only check email and social sites, it is. As for streaming movies, music or other data heavy content, most people download stuff like that from a computer or stream it via WiFi.

For people who want to spend hours on end downloading music and video, that is exactly why carriers are starting to move to data caps or throttled data plans. Otherwise, the network will always be bogged down, no matter how fast the network is or claims to be. As consumers, we will never see anything close to the network speeds that are advertised. Carriers have started to realize tha...

My rant was geared more towards the iPad data plans. Anyone who pays $500-$1000 for an iPad doesn't just "check email and social sites". Wifi is not always available, especially for those that travel. 2Gb is a complete joke, period. No way around that argument.

How much data do YOU use? I've had an iPhone for 2 years and with Wifi at home and nearly all of my friend's homes, the MOST I've ever used is 240 MB in a month. I am a data ADDICT. I am on nearly 24/7. I was really surprised at the numbers when I checked into it.

I average about 1.5 gb on my iPhone. Once I got an iPad and was out of town with no wifi available I was at 3gb in less than a week. If u use 240 mb, goody gumdrops for u, keep the minimum data plan. But there are those of us that actually use data and need it.

Well, if you were a Verizon or T-Mobile cust, you would have unlimited data.....up to 2GB. after that they would throttle your data speed to the point you wouldn't want to use it. At least AT&T allows you to use as much data as you want. So basically you pay 30 bucks a month to have Verizon/T-Mobile's "unlimited" 2GB data plans, or you pay 25 bucks for AT&T's 2GB data plan, and if you go over, you pay 10 bucks per GB. That sounds like a better deal to me anyway.

I beg to differ. Verizon wireless throttle policy applies to the top unknown percentage of data users; it does not kick in at a particular amount of data consumption. So far this month, with a week and a half left in my cycle, I've used over 11 GB's and I'm testing about 1.5 mbs down, with a very consistent 800kbs up. for a 3G area, those are pretty average numbers. nothing earth shattering, but certainly not throttled.
