Sprint 4g Sucks

Evo 4G (that's a joke)
I've got two of these phones. Basically like them, but give me a break on the 4G. It is totally retarded. I shuffel between two covered cities and travel to others. When I click on the 4g antenna the antenna comes on, but the phone rarely switches to 4g and if it does it is brief and never operates in 4g. If I do any data I lose what tiny amount of apparent 4g I get. This method of communication is less reliable than carrier pigeon. Don't buy it for Sprints 4g service. It is shockingly disappointing.

you try and put a multi billion dollar project in a short time! why do you think its done gradually. Rome wasn't built in 7 days ya know. 4G is still in its baby stage, don't expect any real coverage till 2013-14 if not later.

So much for the "1st 4g Network" I'm sure the falsehood of it all was a predicate to charge an extra fee for 4g systems. (a price increase without delivering product). After they got everyone believing that they backed off and said the extra fee wasn't because of 4g. They have some splainin' to do.

No doubt a good deal, but not exactly as advertised on the 4g. I said I like the phone and pretty much the service, but the 4g is a bait and switch, straight up.

Clearwire's WiMAX is a separate entity from Sprint's EVDO 3G. Clearwire has the sole responsibility to build out the 4G network.

Clearwire had their own infrustructure prior to a partnership with Sprint. This means WiMAX was an upgrade to Clearwire's already existing infrustructure; Not Sprint's.

So currently, WiMAX is not fully integrated with every tower structure that Sprint's antennae are located on. Financial issues have forced Clearwire to temporarily minimize the areas of 4G. Hope this explains the spotty coverage issue.

Sprint has agreed to front 2 billion more dollars to help expand the areas of 4G. However, the decision also still remains on the direction choice of WiMAX Vs. LTE.

To place a "Full" blame on Sprint, woul...

Well lets put it this way. Sprint promoted being the 1st with 4G and they didn't have their bases covered. I hope Sprint goes LTE, but that could (I suppose) put them 5 years behind the LTE competition. I don't know where Clearwire put their towers, but I can't get coverage in the center of towns. I wonder if anyone is have a consistent 4g experience with Sprint. I'm betting not one, no not one.

I live in Upstate NY and Verizon has launched their LTE here. So far, it has been the same. Hit or miss. I commend Verizon on their aggressive rollout. However, all things considered, 4G is new and Verizon has been hit with two outages here. Sprint was fortunate to have jumped aboard early. It has given them ample time to feel the market out. One thing that can't be taken away is experience. Sprint/Clearwire have the expertise to move 4G forward with little technical issues. There isn't even a true 4G business model yet. Currently, its all trial and error. So Sprint has some room to capitalize.

This leads to the next point. I wouldn't say Sprint will be "5 years behind". The switch to LTE will be easy, they already have the proper base s...

I've had great 4G service since I bought my phone. I'm planning on upgrading to the EVO 3D this summer. I guess I'm just lucky? I always have a great 4G signal unless I'm in the basement.

We're talking about Sprint here. All they have to do is learn how to build a network like VZW is doing.

Oh you mean like having the whole thing go down for a day and a half? Or do you mean like being 1 year and a half behind? Or do you mean like having no cities covered?

Beats having no indoor coverage due to that garbage 2.5ghz signal that can't penetrate through toilet paper. 15mbps down consistently here in NYC on Verizon's LTE and with full signal indoors.

It's the 2.5GHz frequency that is the problem and cost a $hit load to provide sufficient coverage using it. More towers = More $$$ which Sprint doesn't have. So don't look for any improvements anytime soon.

If you want REAL 4G go to Verizon Wireless. Hell even T-Mo's "4G" aka HSPA+ is better than that crappy WiMAX.

Eugene Oregon right here. Constant 3-5mbps with my tether. Sorry your having such issue. There is tweeks to get the signal better in the phone and it will hold a connection better. I am right outside of the 4G cusp but get 2-3 bars constantly inside and downstairs through several walls.

Well in Austin, TX. 4g on my EVo works great. By the way, Sprint never said the extra fee ($10) was for 4g. Some of the reps did but they were not supposed to..Now all smart phones require the premium data fee..

OK, so even though I don't get why you get shoddy service I'm still trying to figure out why you are trolling this article with something that is off topic. I get good 4G service on my EVO and most of my friends do to. But considering this is an article on Gingerbread software, why are you in here trolling for non related topics? ๐Ÿคจ

According to Sprint's coverage map, where I live I should get the highest connection possible. That's not the case. I rarely get 1 bar of coverage inside my house and outside is 1 bar max. With that said, I get 4-6 Mbps download every time with 1 bar of coverage.
