The only sound they'll hear is crickets chirping...
Really? Licensing webOS? For who? Why? The 6 people worldwide who use it? Does HTC or Samsung want like 3 of those 6 annual sales? Good Luck HP!

This would've been a good idea for Palm when they first released webOS a couple of years ago before Android had all of the traction and momentum that they do now and before WP7 got off of the ground. As it stands, this consideration is too little, too late.

HP had a second change to make this right (by licensing the crap out of it), but they didn't. Sure, the hardware is impressive (The Veer is a very powerful phone, and its tiny!) and the usability of WebOS blows android out of the water, and perhaps even iOS...BUT....what really makes a platform successful is great apps.
WebOS has been a complete dud with both developers and consumers. Its a chicken or the egg with little faith on either side.
But I am still in shock that Nokia went with WP7 over WebOS...but knowing microsoft's tactics, they probably paid Nokia money instead of charging licensing fees.

Yeah nothing like inventing conspiracy theories based on nothing but paranoia.....
Or maybe it could be because WP7 is a growing and expanding platform which already has more than 20,000 apps while WebOS is dying and in worse shape than Symbian.
Microsoft has already sold more WP7 licenses in 6 months than Palm has sold WebOS devices in 2 years....which platform looks like it has a future?
I like WebOS, I think it's a great OS, I just think it will go down with O/S 2 as a great OS that failed....

Maybe a third party would put WebOS on a phone someone would actually want to use. The sad little girlyphones HP is offering sure aren't doing it any favors.

Who says that they necessarily want to use WebOS on smartphones? I think it's a fantastic OS, and would work well on a tablet, an e-reader or who knows what kind of mobile device. And WebOS is certainly vastly superior to Android.
