Very true, and that would be my option. But not everyone, nor the vast majority want to be bothered doing this out of ignorance mostly and loss of warranty as well.
I remember I had a Kaiser from AT&T, it had carrier apps, but they also could be removed. And the WM tethering app was hidden in with the system files, which was able to be given an icon with a little work.

Having carrier apps is one thing, but putting toxic one's as mentioned, is wrong.

Customers can always warranty devices over the phone and it would never come back on them.

Most don't know this. I see your point.

Or flash back to stock, true. I think for the most part, its people don't know they can root. And depending on the phone, it can be easy or difficult.

Yes it would because even over the phone you still have to return it, and when they get it, they take a look at it and see that you did stuff you weren't supposed to you get charged full retail price for the replacement.

If I had $1 for every customer who thought that they would be able to pull one over by doing that I would have.....well, a few dollars anyway.
