Why?

I wish I could understand Apple's obsession with thinness....that's the main reason the iPhone battery sucks so much....the phone is too fricking THIN....make it a little thicker and the battery will last 10 times as long.....no more daily charging....

I wonder how many normal sized phones have developed anorexia trying to be as thin as the iPhone.....this promotes a poor body image! 🤣

Ever heard of the Apple III? That is the classic example of Apple III preferring products that 'look pretty' to a product that actually, you know, works.

When I worked for at&t that was the #1 complaint I got about ALL models of the iPhone including the 4, they charge it overnight, take it off the charger right before they leave for work, and by the time the workday is over it needs charging again.

The battery sucks.

thats what you call overcharging, that breaks the battery and other components of the phone and leads to the battery having less battery life/capacity. phones are normally fully charged in less than 3 hours my ipod(which is close to an iphone) charges within an hour.

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that the lithium ion batteries being used in cell phones can't actually be overcharged. Granted, it can cause it to heat up a little, and overheating can reduce the overall lifespan of the battery.

But reducing the lifespan of the battery is not a big deal provided it is one of those phones that has a user replacable battery....

I do know my old Motorola phone specfically said in the manual that there is no problem leaving it plugged in after it is done charging because it won't harm the battery

Please do correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding of the Iphone 4 is it is the longest battery of any iphone, it is improved in size from the last model.

Lithium ion batteries do not have a memory, but the battery life (ie it does not hold a charge as long as it use to) is effected by if you do a correct power cycle ( i let it go all the way dead and charge it all the way full everytime) the beauty of lithium ion is that if you dont do this your not ruining your battery and you can get back to correct power cycle charging down the line as well. I'm guessing when I say this, but with out correct power cycle charging you get 8 to 12 months before batter degradation, with approx 15 to 21 months.

Also the overcharging of a battery t...

"Please do correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding of the Iphone 4 is it is the longest battery of any iphone"

That's probably true but it's a little like being the smartest member of the Clampett family as iPhones have never had great batteries.

I am really surprised to see that some people are unaware of a problem with the iPhone battery, that's one of those problems that is so common I figured everyone would be familiar with it.

The battery problem is well enough known that it was even mentioned last summer on the 'iPhone' episode of Futurama.....

That depends very much on the specific phone.....most modern phones don't actually 'do anything' once they are charged up, regardless of how long you keep them plugged in.

I don't use an iPhone, I have a Blackberry Torch which lasts an average of 60 hours between charges, more if I minimize battery usage by doing things like shutting off the GPS and using only 3G rather than WiFi.....

I worked for at&t and I can tell you from experience 'the battery sucks' is the #1 most common complaint people have about the iPhone....and it is a completely unnecessary complaint too, all Apple has to do is make the phone a little thicker, and allow a user replaceable battery and the complaints about battery life would disappear

Isn't battery life the #1 complaint of all smart phones..? I get this for both HTC EVO's, Epic, LG Optimus with Sprint..so it isn't just the iPhone that gets complaints. My iPhone 4 lasts me 3 days usually between charges. I never turn off my 3G, I play games, text, take pictures and record video and have yet to have these so called battery issues. My 3GS on the other hand had weak battery life...the iPhone 4 was a nice leap in battery life..

Regardless of battery life, people will still buy the phone. Honestly there are more people out here who want a slim phone compare to a big block phone. Smartphones regardless will always have the same battery problem. Thats why they sell extended life batteries. Its all just to make money. I know iPhone cannot remove battery but this is a money maker for apple. less products for more money then why not.
