No doubt that the government is trying to run businesses in the US and vastly overstepping their bounds especially in the mobile communications industry.

Limit the government.

Yeah. Madison tried that. It's called the Constitution which defined what the government's powers would be. Even included a Bill of Rights which stated that anything the Constitution did not expressly state the Feds COULD do they could not. What did those mofos do? They came up with nonsense such as "implied powers" stating that even though the Constitution did not state that they had these powers...they really do. So what can be done? Scrap the whole damned thing and start over, I say. Problem is that there WAS one successful peaceful revolution in this country which was the transition from the Articles of Confederation to the Constitution. You better believe that these people in power will never allow that to happen again. We're ...

Good point.
I agree with everything you just said. My question to you though would be why is it okay for Verizon, or any carrier for that matter, to benefit from forced roaming mandates? Verizon is the number one carrier because these roaming mandates worked in their favor when they were trying to establish themselves. So why is it all of a sudden a "free market" when Verizon wants to take that right away from its competition? It seems to me that this is hypocrisy on a major level.
I do happen to agree with you about us all being slaves. America is a country ran by corporate interest and fascism.
I'm with Ron Paul on the issue. We should kick these corporate decisions out of Washington but we should also make sure these corporations don't...

There were never forced data roaming mandates nor should there ever be. The idea behind forced voice roaming was that a carrier should not be allowed to refuse to carrier a call from a competitor. What if grandma is stranded on the side of the road and needs to call for a wrecker? That sort of garbage. I am not advocating a change to the current roaming mandated. I am against expanding them from voice to data.

I understand your point. I just posted my pov in our other post( I think you may have referenced this post), but as I stated, in 2011 and beyond, LTE carriers will be using VOIP for voice calls. That was the entire plan and idea for all of these "4G" technologies: VOIP and IMS. Without the use of data roaming, these companies will not have Voice roaming either or it will severely cripple their own expansion plans. As far as "forced roaming" it's not so much as that per se. Verizon uses the FCC when it wants something and complains about them when they don't like what they have to say. Verizon did rely on the FCC's rules concerning roaming when it needed to.

i think we should limit the goverment but be careful what you are asking for... in a lot of cases the goverment is the only one defending you from big corporations. so a prudent approach is what is needed

One small problem with your broad assesment that "....the government is trying to run businesses...". Wireless carriers are LEASING the spectrum they use from the government, which, in theory, belongs to the public and is implied to be used in the best interest of the public. I'm not going to get into a debate on what we pay the government (taxes) because this is a forum regarding the wireless industry. But there is no disputing that the government is our only defense against these large carriers from snuffing out the competition and then charging whatever they feel like for service. The whole "if you don't like it then switch" arguement will be completely irrelevant, even as it is almost completely irrelevant now, as there will be no re...

No. They will do just what they are doing and ride this thing out until Obama is voted out in 2012 and then have their best chance to overturn this garbage. Unfortunately, this will likely be a winning strategy for AT&T to get it's T-Mobile acquisition through as well. *Sigh* I just can't win I guess.

That is a very poignant point. Many people forget that this spectrum used is only leased.
The government actually does own it and we the people run the government.
