I can't see a practical application for head movements to control apps.
I won't make a final opinion until I see it actually used, but right now, it seems like it is just a feather that allows Google/Android to say "An iPhone can't do that."
Same for 3D phones...not really necessary feature for the majority of consumers IMO. Just some extra bells and whistles that can cause problems...
...
What you call "bells and whistles" I called tech evolution.
Move forward or get stuck behind.
...
I didn't say it wasn't a technological advancement, I just don't think it's a very necessary one.
My index finger does a perfect job of navigating menus and operating apps.
...
You probably thought DVD was "just fine" until you saw Blu-Ray. And if you think DVD is still just fine, well your probably an old person.
What I'm trying to say is ordinary folks like us aren't quite imaginable enough to conjure up uses for this, but developers are.
...
DVD is just fine, and I'm hardly old. Unless 24 is the new social standard for "old."
The last video game console I purchased was a PS2...none of that means I'm against new technology.
I guess this will just come down to personal choice and what you want a phone to do, and arguing back and forth won't get either of us anywhere...it would be like arguing iPhone vs. Android...no one will ever back down.
If you need/want a phone that takes 3D pictures, and follows you head to opearate apps, awesome. I don't happen to need either of those features.

JAY! That's what I've been saying to you about the physical keyboard! ๐

I believe Ice Cream Sandwiches have always been considered a novelty, along with freeze pops. ๐
...
Neopolitan (SP?) ice-cream sandwiches are the best. Bomb pops are pretty spectacular as well.
...
Would you be inclined to say...they are "the bomb"? ๐ Hardy har har! ๐คฃ
...
What I like about ice cream sandwhiches is I am less likely to eat too much.
...
I would agree with you. Us that are old enough have seen alot of features come and go. Yes this is a technological advancement but that doesn't mean the mass majority will adopt it. I don't think I can see any use for this as well as a new standard. First this would only work for front facing camera's which is not even a standard yet. Then the use in email, text, and internet browsing I don't see adopting this feature. Maybe games, but I have only a few games on my phone. I just can not fathom the idea of this either.
...
If I can't use it to play Angry Birds, I don't want it.
...
lol I've never even seen angry birds. I don't even understand the concept. From what ppl tell me is that you just touch stuff and it blows up or something like that. Sounds pretty boring to me.
I seen the game that slices the fruit and that seems pretty boring to me as well. Maybe I'm just more into games that make you think like scramble and unblock and dots lol
...
Yeah, Angry Birds is pretty much just a fun little time waster...doesn't get your brain going very much.
You launch different types of birds that have various destructive "abilities" from a slingshot at structures made of wood, glass and rock trying to kill green pigs.
Once you get to playing it, it's pretty fun.
...
LMAO wow that sounds so atari
I guess I'll just stick with unblock me and scramble or watching videos or listening to my iTunes.
Get a lot of friends and invite them to beat your score on Scramble. Now that is super fun. Very competitive
...
Angry Birds 3D? Make a grabbing motion, pull back and release to fire? Could be good... ๐คจ

You and your friend are using video chat on your tablet to talk to another friend.
The camera focuses on you when you're speaking, and then focuses on your friend when they speak.
This is the demo they showed at the event itself.
...
I suppose that would be helpful, but I use FaceTime on my iPhone almost daily, and I've never noticed the camera struggling to focus when two people were in the frame.
Maybe Android cameras have more difficulty with that, and this feature would help improve the video chat experience for Android users.
It will have to do more than just that (I assume it WILL do more by the time it's available to consumers) for me to be impressed and see it as a necessary feature though.

So facetime on your iphone will adjust the frame, zoom, etc of your video chat simply when someone else starts talking?
This isn't "Face detection" this is more like traditional webcams for PC's, that can adjust their focus no matter where you go in the room.
...
Then I guess I don't really need FaceTime to do that, because I never once thought, "I really wish this user-facing camera would automatically adjust the frame, zoom etc. of my video chat when someone else starts talking"
Say I'm talking to my friend who has his phone propped up on something, and he's relatively close (just head and shoulders in the frame), then walks across his living room to grab something, but remains in the frame. On FaceTime, he doesn't appear go out of focus (at least to my eyes, and I have nearly 20/20 vision without any type of corrective lenses).
Until I hear of more features that Ice Cream Sandwich will offer, I'm going to leave this topic alone. We won't really be getting anywhere at this point.

I suspect the tracking feature will be more useful with things like tablets. and for Google TV, it would bring kinect like functionality to the games.
...
I mentioned in a different thread about Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS?) that if they can usefully integrate it into certain games, then they would have my attention about motion detection.
