My bet is that it's a firmware problem somewhere in the backhaul systems that support the LTE. If it is I deed a 100% nationwide outage (and I have no idea if it is) then it's Alcatel or Ericcson that's at fault and VZW can't fix it instantly.

My questions are:

Is it affecting data card and Thunderbolt users the same way?

Why is it reverting to 1x instead of EVDO? I could see the Thunderbolt dropping back to 1x if something firmware caused it to fail because it uses the same chipset for 3G and 4G, but I don't think the data cards use the same combined processor.

It would be interesting to know some of the details, for sure!

I believe 4G devices which do not even operate in 4G coverage area are having issues. I have been working with a Samsung Hotspot that has experienced connectivity issues today.

I can verify that. I got a call from a friend with a Thunderbolt asking me what the problem was, and she didn't live in a 4G area.

If only the data was failing, I suspect they had an issue with the SIM systems back in the central office blocking access to data but not voice.
