Yep. The worst part is that the courts allow it. It's not the most legal thing to do but people jumping on it like that. I'm suprised it took this long

Of course they are going to let them. You have to pay to file a lawsuit. No government agency is going to turn down the chance to get some money.

It clearly stated in the T&C. And all the millions of agency's that tried to make something out of this have all reported that none of the information is going back to apple, its only stored on the phone which you can encrypt. This is crazy ppl are so scared of advanced technology. The information is ambiguous anyways.

The only problem with your assessment, is that the FCC has very strict rules about tracking mobile devices without consent. Only the owner of such a device can authorize any consent for tracking. I doubt much will really happen here, other than Apple & Google change some of their tracking policy's. Companies Like Telenav & Actsoft abide by these laws with the wireless carriers to protect themselves from such lawsuits.

Do you have something against money? More than likely the Feds will keep all the money they fine apple and google for themselves anyway. "You can't track private citizens without their knowledge...that's OUR job"

When I was getting cought up on reading the days posts, I noticed it seems like a lot of these posters are new.

Well, it's good to have some new people on here, rather than the same old, same old. Hopefully the new ones will post regularly.

The phone is not being tracked if its tracks itself. If information is not being shared, then what?

I do not care to much for this, I have an android, track it all you want. Who gets the information, the government, some stupid add company's?

I would be more worried about a girlfriend or wife being able to use the information.

Exactly, Daniel!

How is it a breach of privacy that the phone (which collects location data constantly) stores them on the computer of the owner of the phone?! I own the phone and the computer. Who could possibly get into those files without my knowledge or permission? And even if they did stumble upon my location files, I don't care if they are able to see that I went to Orlando last month, and Las Vegas last year. With all of the social networking sites that allow you to post a location along with a status, why are some files buried in the iPhone owner's computer a big deal? I consider the "crazy ex bf/gf" excuse void because if you have an ex that is that insane, you need to go to the police and get a restraining order on that person....

I concur 100% It's not a big deal. it uses Triangular positioning so its not precise anyways and even if it was, who cares when your getting targeted ad's to your phone of great deals that you have the option to accepting or declining? Hey, you're by Burger King, did you know burger king has a special today? Get a burger and get one free... Who wouldnt want that versus some ad that is not ever relevant to you at all in no form, shape, or fashion?

Well, I wouldn't want a SECOND disgusting burger, but I see your point :-P haha.

I'm glad at least a few people don't see this as a big deal.

When you fire up the Maps app, add a location to a Facebook post, Tweet, check in somewhere using Foursquare etc that uses your location also, so why does it matter when the phone does it when you make a call?

Here's an example where this type of location data could be VERY useful: Say you're on vacation 1500 miles away from your home. You are in some sort of an accident and you need to dial 911. You are unfamiliar with the area, and aren't able to provide your current location to the 911 dispatchers. They can determine your location from triangulating your position and send the proper emerg...

Right Jay, they go all nuts over this, but, they use their bank card to buy food and stuff, you're being tracked and evaluated. People use easypass, they know where you drive everyday, and how fast. Charge cards, digital cable, heck they know what you're watching and when so forth and so on. And now they get all miffed on this, nuts.

Should Apple and Google do this, no. But lets not go overboard.
