I agree with everything except for the whole "duopoly" thing...

And well, the idea that there is no competition in the market.

Please don't allow the government to get involved in this stuff. It's insane!

You want faster Internet on your phone? let this go through!
You want better coverage? let this go through!
You want more competition and innovation??? LET THIS GO THROUGH!!!

Who is so unbelievably blinded by irrational fear that they honestly believe that this merger will not be good for everyone??

Do we really need the government to step in and stifle competitive moves like the one AT&T is making??

Has anyone actually paid attention? Anyone read some logical arguments on this? Or economics in general???

Is ANYONE here actually knowledgeable on this topic?

I guess the whole idea is that Sprint and other companies might consider that this new company, if approved, will be a powerhouse usually the economies of scale to acheive higher profits. now, that isnt a bad thing but they are afraid that consumers wont get a fair treatement when it comes to pricing. of course, AT&T is already very expensive as it is and they are afraid they will charge even more because of the spending being done. AT&T spends $19 billion per year on capex and that is more than any other carrier out there. so if they have to spend more on capex to bring the two networks together and build out LTE, consumers are targeted to be charged much higher.

every company has a different business model and it appears that the more ...

I hope that you are being facetious.

Sure, AT&T *can* use T-Mobile spectrum to increase 3G/4G wireless broadband speeds. And AT&T *can* use T-Mobile spectrum to improve & extend 3G/4G coverage.

If AT&T *can* do something, that necessarily means that AT&T *will* do it???

Not even close. That is nothing more than an appeal to probability, which is a logical fallacy.

In actuality, AT&T has a history of avoiding things that it *can* do. For example, in the Cingular-AT&TWS merger proceedings seven year...

You must have drank the Kool-Aid? How does eliminating a nationwide player and having two companies control 80 percent of the entire U.S. market "increase competition"? If we eliminated 8 teams (or 1/4 like this merger would do) from the NFL. Then we give the vast majority share of the NFL's revenue to 4/5 (80 percent) of the remaining teams to get the very best players, what would happen to the other 1/5 of teams left. Those roughly 5 teams would be terrible. How would that make the NFL more competitive? It would just suck to watch football.

Don't let the government get involved? Who do people think regulates PUBLIC AIRWAVES? These companies operate in an industry where they don't own the airwaves, the lease them from us, the people of the US, as regulated by the government we vote into power. Why should 2 companies that operate using OUR assets be allowed to control so much of it that they are allowed to rip us off, using our assets?

Don't let the government get involved? I want them involved because each of us IS the government.
