Just suppose this worked out for the consumer

If VZN and ATT wanted to maintain most of their customer base, they would want to modify their plans as much as possible to better compete with the smaller companies. In some ways, it's the smaller companies that keep the bigger ones honest. If too many people started to switch to smaller and more reasonable carriers plans, even though most of them aren't as good as the larger ones on their own, they a lot of them rely on roaming deals with the larger carriers. With that being said, the FCC could strongly suggest(make cough, cough)ATT and VZN restructure plans to give the consumer better deals. Especially ATT, when this merger goes through.

The only real issue with consumers as I see it, are the plans. They're expensive and if the larger ...

there will be stipulations of course put onto this merger, if it goes through. that is a given.

"for Tmobile to divide their assests and break them up into regions and have an auction or sorts"

a little hard for the little guys because you have sprint and verizon.

You have a point. However, the smaller companies don't stand much of a chance as it is now. They can't afford to out right buy Tmobile and in addition to that, it would take them much time and money to covert Tmobile's towers over to be compatible to their network. Something they can't afford to do and it would prove to costly in the long run. ATT and the FCC realize this. That's why this merger makes since from a businesses point of view. The biggest issues will be to implement stipulations that will be beneficial to the consumers, as well as the carriers themselves. It's obvious that no matter what measures are put in place, some people will not be happy with this merger.

The smaller companies, believe it or not, actually have a chance in this industry. A few reasons: the government doesn’t allow monopolies in one area and there are actually many companies in one area, but more importantly there are special fees that the Sprint’s, Verizon’s and AT&T’s must charge those smaller companies. If they have any issues of not doing that, they will be severely fined and action will be taken against them.

Not many companies can afford buying out a Sprint, or T-mobile. (even AT&T but they do have the borrowing capability to be able to do so. We won’t get into the financials unless you want to. I can elaborate further on that statement.)

“, it would take them much time and money to c...

No, can't even begin to think of the many, many stipulations that would be put in place. But, I can say it's nice to correspond with someone who has actually put some intelligent thought into this and not just speaking from anger over the merger or just from plain ignorance. Although I am an ATT customer, I'm by no means an advocate of their current plans. I've been a customer of theirs for a few years and have an older plan that works for me. But, I would like to see them do something better with their plan restructuring and give current and new customers better rates, without decreased services. If the merger goes through, I would love to see them adopt Tmobile's current plans. Obviously it would be modified to accommodate the role over mi...

Well okay, I will take a shot at it.

- ATT would be required to restructure their plans to be comparable to Tmobile's current plans.\

- ATT would be required to give total access to their networks to smaller carriers, including both data and voice roaming. Of course the smaller companies would pay a fee but, the FCC would establish a reasonable cap to insure that they don't get over charged.

_ ATT would be required to show plans of network improvements and a reasonable time line to get their network improved. Failure to do so, would result in large fines for the company.

- ATT would be required to invest in product innovation and invest in more handset options for consumers.

- ATT would be required to continue increase of Wi...

I do realize that some, if not all these may be in place but, I'm quite sure that they can be tweeted a whole lot better than what they are currently.
