FCC Promises Thorough Review of AT&T / T-Mobile Merger
In That Case...

...it is not going to happen. No way the removal of T-Mobile as a wireless carrier makes sense. DT wants out? Fine. Sell to Vodaphone. I am sure they wouldn't mind getting out of their silent partnership with Verizon Communications and showing how it should be done. FCC do not allow the number four carrier to simply...disappear. You made mistakes with ATTWS and Alltel don't repeat them merely because a foolish precedent has been set in the past.
I'm betting it will go through, they're just trying to save face at this point and make people think it's a harder fight than it actually was.

Verizon Wireless is way too profitable and Vodafone doesn't want to sell their shares back to them at any cost. They would be stupid to do so anyway and they most likely don't want to take a risk in creating a US presence for themselves.
The only company that would be bought out by vodafone if it was to be open for acquisition is At&t who they attempted to buy out back when it was Cingular.
"Vodafone owns 45% of the wireless company and hasn't received any dividends from the subsidiary since 2005 - when it received a payment of US$1.8 billion from the company."
this is another from vodafone's 2005 reporting
"Six months to 30 September 2005 includes £295 million (2004: £423 million) from the Group’s interest in SFR and £79 million (2004: £447
million) from Verizon Wireless" "Dividends received from associated undertakings "

be positive you will have more than 2 years to adjust, if the merger is approved.
